Welcome to Week 13 of Mother 2 Club

:house: Home Thread | :video_game: Game Club

We’ve reached the penultimate week (and my busiest, so super-minimal thread today). I’ll be unavailable during my normal posting time, so this thread’s up earlier than usual.

Week 13 Jul 24th
Last Week Week 12
Start Point Explore Magicant
End Point Spend the night in Saturn Valley
Next Week Week 14
A guide to this week

Things are fairly straightforward this week.

Travel through Magicant (you can pick up a party member in the house with the bird men), then pass through the Sea of Eden and reach a boss battle.

Your next stop is Saturn Valley. While preparing for the final leg of the journey, you’ll find you need to head to Onett, back to the meteorite there.

Consider whether you want to hunt for the rare loot drop here (Paula’s best ribbon, mentioned at the bottom of this thread), then grab the material from the meteorite and head back to Saturn Valley.

Deliver the item, then stop by the inn for the night while preparations are underway. The next morning, save for now. This week’s over. You’ll need to steel your resolve for the final fight, but that’s for next week.

This week ends when you’re required to stay the night at the inn in Saturn Valley. There’s a final boss fight right around the corner, but this is your last chance to save without limiting what items you have access to. There’s a lot of post-game dialogue that you can’t save before, which is impactful if anyone’s playing on the original game cart (maybe I should have polled about that so I’d know?), which is why the club’s final week split is here.

If you want to do any level grinding, go hunt for Jeff’s rare drop weapon mentioned last week, or clean up your inventory, now’s a good time for that.

:ribbon: Important: When you reach Onett as part of this week’s storyline progression, the スターマン・センゾ has a rare drop (1/128 chance): めがみのリボン. This is ポーラ’s top ribbon in the game. Hunting Tip: If you found the うさぎのおまもり in Lumine Hall, equip it on Paula and have her initiate battle against the Starman by using サイコシールドΩ. When the Starman uses its opening PSI attack, it’ll bounce back for an easy win.

OH MY GOD i got the ribbon, and I kid you not, it was on the very FIRST grandad starman I came across

And here it is!

I couldn’t wait to play this week after the sneak peak of Magicant. I’m technically not done with this week yet though, so I’ll properly talk about it once I finish it off. I just couldn’t wait to report what happened!

One more thing, my NSO subscription expires in a few days, so I’m gonna marathon the finale slightly ahead of schedule. I’ll report back once we’re all there!

Ok now Magicant and all that stuff (nothing past this week’s end point of course)

Say cheese sandwich!

I forgot Ness’ sister was here, so then I called escargo, and they couldn’t find me and had to give up lmao

And then I found some creatures that reminded me of the munchies mascots, they used to absolutely dominate the chip market here and I have that cheddar guy as my gboard background

I forgot to check one of the bats I got, and it was the overpowered one that frequently misses. I noticed a little bit of it in Stonehenge too but forgot to mention it, and was wondering why I was always missing. As a party of 4 it’s much easier to get away with, but definitely not as 1. 7 turns went back and forth of me missing and a Kraken being paralyzed, and I also thought the dice enemies were meant to be slippery because it felt like they only summoned enemies. Let’s just say I kept getting more flying men and there were lots of graves

I think I misinterpreted ちえのリンゴ as a nickname for Apple Kid. The Starman at the end of Stonehenge mentioned its premonition may be correct, and I thought “He’s an inventor, called Apple Kid, and he was talking about thwarting Gig’s plans before being abducted.” I guess it was actually a premonition machine the whole time lol

The first translation that came to my mind for the line at the bottom was “Now thing’s are getting interesting!” but I also remembered なってきた can be for changes in states. So maybe it could be either “becoming interesting” or "It wasn’t interesting, but now it is (and ongoing). I know I just made it sound like they’re the same thing, but I feel like there could be some nuance. He was already excited about the meteorite and the conversation didn’t feel boring, so I feel like the interest was an addition, whereas if Ness was talking about sitting in front of the waterfall for 3 minutes and then suddenly brought up the meteorite, then the interest would be more of a change than an addition

That was such a cool end to Magicant, wow. I wasn’t expecting to get dizzy either

And also who could forget the attack on Onett, glad the fams still safe. On Mother’s Day I saw some fanart of this moment, but then I just went and forgot it existed so I could still be surprised (and I was). And I’m still amazed I got the ribbon on my first try, 1/128 chance was the same as the Sword of Kings iirc

I’m onto the finale now, I’ll see ya’ll next week!

Wow that’s incredible luck with the drop, nice! I’m so excited for you to see the ending section of this game soon.

I tend to have bad luck but I had my own version of this recently. I’ve been replaying Ocarina of Time for the first time in ages and did the treasure game without the intended method (I actually just accidentally said yes to playing because I keep forgetting B is not a cancel button in this game ). I got them all right first try! Which is apparently a 1/32 chance, still pretty far from the odds you pulled but quite unlikely still.

Week 13

Y’all are so lucky, congrats! Meanwhile I’ve done a little bit of grinding but have decided what will be, will be. And what will be is none of the rare stuff dropping

マジカント was really wild, I was not at all expecting a naked solo adventure like that! So glad Ness had an extra dragon powder on him when he went in, because I was going nowhere quickly with the boss until I used them.

I was shocked that dad could still pester us to save in our mind palace:

(It LOOKS like it’s the old man speaking but dad called right after his dialogue finished.)

Aww, how pure-hearted hero of Ness to believe Pokey just has low self esteem and is actually his friend! At least, I think that’s what’s happening here…

This happened to me last week in dinosaur land! Even though I was really hoping for a tiny delivery guy to show up :sob: The endgame seems to be filled with unreachable places.

I think ‘things are getting interesting’ works fine as a translation since ‘getting’ is pretty much the same as ‘becoming’ in this context, and either way you’re emphasizing the process over the end result. A gradual process of becoming interesting happened, between some point in the past and now. What the gradual process is exactly is up to us to interpret, but my guess is that entering the final stage of the project makes all the work that led up to it seem uninteresting by comparison.

Week 13

I remember Magicant being a bit of a pain to get through on my first playthrough, but if you go in with the right equipment and franklin badge half the stuff can’t touch you. That said, right when I reached the ocean area Ness got homesick. I knew it had been a while but I was kinda hoping talking to his mom in person in his mind would reset that, heh. Can confirm it does not. Luckily it didn’t cancel an important heal or anything and the boss still went pretty smoothly.

I forgot Ness gets super powered here; his HP and PP are crazy high. Magicant’s a fun area in general, a little looking back on the journey, some characterization for Ness, some fun jokes. I like that there’s a clock you can talk to that asks if you’ve grown up enough to be able to read what time it says.

Also lol at the mention of Saturn Valley residents seeing “a pig wearing clothing.” This game hates pokey so much.

There’s a child in Magicant that is obviously Ness but younger that is beautifully written. As a child, I always connected with the child’s feelings about not being played with but as an adult I connect with the older person being too busy to play.

It's still Week 13 right?

This week was rough, wow. That boss fight in マジカント was especially tough. I only beat it through outlasting its PP pool - it ran out and couldn’t use its psi attacks so I was then able to just wail on it without worry. Funny thing is that I got absolutely worn down by the encounters on the way the first time I attempted it and ran out of PP myself, so I bought some マジックプリン which restores PP but on the second trip there I barely needed it because スネス kept critting and finishing battles without taking damage. So in the end I didn’t even need the マジックプリン because I went in with basically full PP

Then オネット was also annoying at first, especially those enemies that can do a party-wide confuse and also turn party members into diamonds. It’s a good thing スネス has a boat-load of PP now so I can burn it on reviving ポーラ and the others when they die. The スターマン enemies were also annoying until I found out that ポーラ’s psi shield negates their attacks. Made them basically trivial to fight

Didn’t bother going out of my way for the ribbon, but I may have to go on a shopping spree to make sure the party all have the best gear possible going into next week’s content
