I’m having a weird issue. I’m using the main website as well as a second-party app on my phone. I recently came back to wk after a long break and decided to start again from level 1 to revise things, but I noticed some items not appearing on the new lessons/reviews list on the website, but they do on my phone app, so I know they exist in the queue, and they are things like 右手 which appeared on the website, and 左手 which still appeared on the phone app once I did all the available lessons on the website (it was in the same batch, after I learned the kanji for level 3, 50 items appeared on the website and once I completed them, I still had 7 more on my phone app). Same thing happened at least once with the previous items, and I haven’t noticed this happening in the past before I restarted this time. The items are missing on the website, so I don’t see how it would be caused by the phone app.
They appeared properly in the reviews queue 4 hours later. I don’t remember if, the first time it happened, it were also lesson items that were missing.
Hey! Not sure exactly what the issue is here, but wanted to assure you the WaniKani site (www.wanikani.com) is the source of truth. If there is a discrepancy between that and a 3rd party app (not made by us, not supported by us), then the app is not syncing properly with WaniKani and you’d need to contact that app’s developer to figure out the issue.
No, in my case not all the items I unlocked appear on the WaniKani website. For example, on level 4, I unlocked lessons for 右手 and 左手 at the same time, but only one appeared in the lessons queue on the website. Once I synced the app and did the remaining lesson there, they then both appeared in the next reviews queue on the website like normal, so they had to both be unlocked and in the lessons queue at that point. Overall, I thing it was something like 50 items that appeared on the website and 7 that didn’t and only showed up in the app. I don’t see how this could have been caused by the second party app, unless it can interfere with the queue on the website, which I doubt. I’ll see if the same thing happens with level 5. Also, I’ve been using the app almost from the start, and nothing like this had happened the previous 2 times I reset my level, so I’m not sure if it can be connected to that.
Hi, the next time you see an anomaly like you describe, could you send a message to hello@wanikani.com and let us know you are experiencing this problem again. If you could refrain from doing the lessons in the third party app when you notice the issue it will help to try identify if there is an issue with the WaniKani website and also what the cause might be. Once you do the lessons in the third party app it becomes hard to work out if/what might have gone wrong. We will try to resolve any issue quickly so that you can keep on with your learning.
I unlocked another batch of lessons, but for now both the webpage and the app give me the same number of items. I’ll notify you if I see the discrepancy happen again in the future.
