When I was learning this, it gave the meaning ‘continuation’. But know it is history? Am I confused with myself. I swear 100% it was showing the meaning continuation not history. Do these things change without notice? It really messed me up
It also shows up when i search for ‘continuation’
It’s been updated, yes. There was notice. Old meaning was retained as a “shake” answer so that people who learnt it before the change aren’t penalised by the muscle memory.
Ah i see, thanks. I did not know that these types of notices existed, I will have to check these in the future.
Any specific reason that “continuation” was made a shake-warning rather than an accepted alt? Most kanji dictionaries I find list continuation as the primary meaning. I’m not sure why both can’t be acceptable.
All I know is what’s on the post I linked, and that only explains why they changed it to “history” and not why they did what they did with “continuation”.
Thanks. I think I mistakenly assumed you were an authority.
You have a very authoritative sounding name, plus a level 60, plus a kitten. Apparently that’s what it takes to sell me.
Ironically, I did get 履歴 as a vocab word a few hours after writing my comment above. I have a game I play with new vocab words where I cover them up and try to guess the meaning from the kanjis. I don’t think I quite got this one, but I was close and sort of had the right meaning even if I didn’t guess any of the actual “correct” words. But the ironic part is: I realized that if I had been using the old definition (continuation) for my guessing game, I wouldn’t have even got close. So, I guess that does help validate their reasoning.
