Sure, we can have a column for transcripts. I probably won’t go through and check every single podcast, but if people want to add them for podcasts they know that’s fine.
Column title: “Transcript” and then “Free” or “Paid” for the content would probably be good. Lots of creators have patreon-only transcripts and the like.
I don’t think this is on the list, but I just ran across one of her videos that was very helpful to me - is this channel considered to be among the type of content desired for this list?
I’m also wondering whether this Yuka’s channel may be considered appropriate for this list:
Also, lately I’ve noticed a proliferation of AI-generated vocabulary reviews, which may possibly morph into podcasts (if not already) 0 wondering whether those might be candidates for listing in a separate category (yeah, it’s possible that there may be resistance to including those at all).
(Yeah, maybe I should just add items to the wiki, but I’m a bit hesitant to add stuff that might be considered to be even slightly inapt.)
Thanks servette! I’ll check out those youtube channels later. It’s fine to ask if you’re not sure if something should go on the list, I’m happy to add stuff too.
AI podcasts… Hmmm… Well, my personal feelings towards AI generated content are negative. But this is a list geared towards learning, so, besides my personal feelings, we should probably be asking ‘would an AI generated podcast be good for learning?’ My feeling is that, for the usual reason given that you can’t trust the quality of the output since it could be ungrammatical or misleading for learners without them being able to judge for themselves, AI podcasts would not be the best first choice for learning. Plus, there’s a chance they have been trained on human-generated podcasts without the hosts’ knowledge, and that kind of thing, which becomes a murky moral ground.
So I would say let’s not include them. If, however, they do become the gold standard for language learning in the future… we could add them in a separate list
In thinking over the other channels that I listed, Yuka’s channel is probably good to go onto the list, perhaps at a N3 or N4 level IIRC, but Japanese Ammo with Misa probably is not, because it is more like a teaching show in both English and Japanese rather than a Japanese podcast - still very usrful, but not quite the intended Japanese listening experience type of podcast.
