1月28日 - Watched 名探偵コナン eps 256 and 257. 256 was as hard as I was expecting, thanks to all the poetry…so again, I understood at best 50%. 257 was much easier, though, thank goodness, so probably I got around 80% or so.
1月29日 - Watched eps 258 and 259. Understood slightly less than my average, so around 60% or so. Definitely fun episodes, though, thanks to the new character being introduced,James Black, and the first full conversation we get to hear from Akai!
Detective Conan
Yeah, it was hard to believe when I first realized. In some ways, it was good for me, since it pushed me to actually start studying Japanese, instead of just saying over and over that someday I would do it. But at the time, I was really upset, because I really wanted to watch right then! I don’t know where you are in the world, but hopefully it’s somewhere that you won’t end up having trouble finding the episodes!
Mayhaps…
I don’t want to give any spoilers, but if you just watched ep 70, you should be getting very close to the ep where Kaitou Kid first appears…
Well, I started Volume 1 back in January 2024, and I only finished Volume 16 on New Years Eve. It’s a pretty text-dense manga, so I was reading very slowly… Definitely worth it, though. And I’m speeding up a bit this year so far.
のんのんびよりばけーしょん!It was great! And as far as the language aspect is concerned, I watched it without any subs, and I was really happy with how high my understanding was!! I only rewinded a handful of parts, but other than that it was like 90% comprehension! I’d like to think that’s improvement from the past three months of properly getting listening practice in, I hope so!!
Episode 9 & 10 of Toradora. I am now decided that I do not love Ami She’s like if someone made a formula for my least favorite kind of character But I still really love the show! I’ll probably keep breezing through it hehe
Detective Conan
ooOOH REALLY??? YIPPEE YIPPEE
Ahh that’s true, I can see how it would be dense haha. Hey I still think that’s a pretty good pace though!! I feel like all reading/reading pace starts out slow, and then once you improve, you really improve! Or maybe that’s just me. Sometimes even just from the first volume of a series to the second I can feel a difference haha. So hey, even if you didn’t read as much last year as you wanted, like you said you’re already improving this year!!
Watched 名探偵コナン ep 260 yesterday, and 261 today. I’d intended to watch 262 as well, as it’s a part 2, but completely ran out of time… Understanding was probably about average, 60-70%, for both. And that brings the first month of the challenge to an end for me - time sure does fly!
I haven’t been on my laptop much, plus even when I’ve had the house to myself for a while, I chose video games over watching something, so that’s anime out. Even though I’ve got at least one volume of 新しい上司はど天然 that I haven’t watched yet…
My hyperfixation is currently on Baldur’s Gate III and Neverwinter Nights 2 rather than anything Japanese, so no potential listening from video games.
But I still have audio dramas and 朗読 in my phone’s music library—and I still haven’t finished ひだまりが聴こえる! —but for some reason I haven’t been able to get myself to listen to them.
First day of February! I hit my hour goal of listening every day last month, so I’m going to up it to 1h 15m for a week, and then probably up it to 1.5h hehe. I set myself a very lofty overall goal, of 400 hours before August, but I think it’s still doable!
Episodes 11-13 of Toradora!! Ohh man, watching Taiga’s dad not show up to the school festival hurrrt that was brutal the way it was called out in front of everyone haha. But then a very sweet ending to the festival!! So it’s okay :')
I wasn’t going to do the listen every day challenge since I was doing to reading every day, but I decided to join late after all. I had been focusing on the number of hours, but I think I’m going to try to focus on listening every day instead to build up good habits. It’s worked well for me with reading.
