16th: grammar vid
17th: Comprehensible Japanese. Also, attempted to understand what xenoblade people were saying after random battles but couldn’t quite make it out today.
20th: more grammar videos. Also, I was watching Sailor Moon (with EngSub) and I noticed one part where the sub was quite different so replayed it multiple times to catch what was said. S2E1 When the subs said “my ordinary life” at the end, but, I think she said 「前のうさぎ」. I’d caught the Usagi, which saying goodbye to herself is a very different feel to saying goodbye to her ordinary life, so I wanted to catch what she said before it. It took a stupid number of tries to get from せんのう to ぜんの
Spent a bunch of time listening today while crocheting an earwarmer-headband thing (dunno what they’re called) with the leftover yarn from when I crocheted myself a scarf a few years ago. It was in the 20s (F) with the wind chill just over 0° yesterday morning so I’d had to borrow my mother’s since I don’t have any warm hats. Something tells me that such cold weather will be more common in Texas…
Listened:
・オッケイ・ジャパニーズ ep 12-18
(Ep 17 is over an hour long, so that’s more than it looks like.)
Definitely not trying to armchair diagnose or anything, but there are times when I wonder if Okkei-san might be ADHD. Or at least some flavor of neurodivergent.
Today was two episodes of Zombie Land Saga, and I made the decision that since I’ve seen this anime before, I’d replace the Japanese subs with no subs. It went ok actually! Well, Saki can be kind of difficult, as can Kotaro when he’s shouting, but the rest of the cast is pretty easy.
Also, I wonder for what percentage of Saki’s on-screen time is the old west music playing, and what percentage of Yugiri’s screen time has the traditional japanese music.
Another detail I noticed since I wasn’t looking at the subtitles so much this time was all their idol outfits have their number on it. Ai’s is obvious, a typical western 3 right in the middle since she’s the modern idol I guess, keeping it simple and Sakura’s is too, when it’s not hidden by her hair. Tae is ゼロ which is also pretty clear. Saki’s entire shirt is a stylised 弐、which makes sense given her love of complicated kanji, and Junko’s is a 4, though somewhat concealed through the blinds-type pattern on her shirt, which I guess is supposed to fit her shyness.
The confusing two are Lily: She has a 6 on her shirt, but the biggest number is a 3 right next to it. Also there’s what could just be a swirl, but might also be フ on her shirt too? And Yugiri, it’s 伍, so not only is it the formal number, but it’s the obsolete formal number. And in calligragpy, to add to that.
I wonder if I’ll understand anything when I get to the サガ事変 episode lol.
Also, apparently hit a decent milestone for listening practice:
Hellooooooo everyone, haven’t posted in a few days, thought I’d give an update.
I’ve started watching Ace of Diamond, and I’m loving all the nostalgia coming through. I’ve only watched 3 episodes so far, watching each one twice (first one with no subtitles and no pausing, second with subtitles and some pausing). In this time frame I’ve also made Listening flash cards on Anki for the first time, but have only been reviewing them for 2 days so I think it’s too soon to comment on the effectiveness on them.
I try to get around 10 cards per episode. My method of going around this is that I take down about 10 timestamps throughout the episode, each timestamp having a sentence with typically at least 1 word that I am unfamiliar with, and a bonus if it has unfamiliar grammar. Then at the ending of my (second) watching, I go back and record all the sentences, get images, english translations (my first language) and also the sentence itself and put it into a flash card.
This is what it looks like ^^^ (with only the audio at the front of the card)
Any tips to improve the flashcard would be greatly appreciated.
My listening days are quite inconsistent, as I have recently started going to the gym for the first time ever, so have also been juggling that. I do however intend to get a good streak going asap.
TL:DR I’ve started watching Ace of Diamond and am planning to continue doing so. I’ve made my first ever listening flashcards on anki but it’s too soon to comment on the effectiveness of them. I’m going to push myself to get a good streak going before it’s too late.
Any tips for my current plan would be super appreciated.
Thanks a lot and have an amazing rest of your day!!
China サプリ - Chinese Tadoku. There is YouTube, but I listened to the Spotify version (for most part). Interesting and you can go on without understanding everything. Most things are online. Novels are low yield, especially if you have read a translation before.
A なつめさんち game video where they played a few NSO games. A video of their recent collab with Naoki Saito, another artist. And lastly another gaming video. This day wasn’t great because I had to watch it all before bed and I was muuuch too sleepy haha. I’ll do better though!
