I watched episode 5 of Shadows House. Although I don’t understand everything, I’m pretty pleased with how much I do understand (though I’m sure I’d be totally lost if I didn’t know the story already).

Day 12! I keep forgetting to post here, so I guess you can tell I prioritize reading more, haha. I’ve still been listening though. Until the film club starts up (exciting!), it’s mostly all gonna be people streaming videogames and that sort of thing because I really like how I can jump in and out, miss some stuff, and it never really matters. Spent a while this morning relaxing with coffee and watching a vtuber (夜更かしおっちょ) play Tears of the Kingdom
I just now read her thumbnail while posting it and she found all of the korok seeds in botw huh? So much more patience than I have, haha.

Today I learnt how to order KFC

While the video was pretty helpful, I did understand it somewhat, and did my best to not constantly read the Japanese subs, I don’t think I can order my chicken with confidence yet.
I think this is mostly to do with that all the items seem to be in katakana, and katakana (English) loan words are so difficult to understand, because it’s English, but it’s not, and it’s real confusing.
Last night I continued with some more Yakuza 0, didn’t really get chance to over the weekend. Made it to chapter two now, and, after the three mumble-lieutenants of Dojima, we are introduced to Tachibana the real estate man, who, thankfully, is really well spoken, which I appreciated greatly after the mumble-fest that was the ending of chapter one.
I was progressing with the story, but now that the tutorial section is out of the way and the city map is open I have the freedom to do whatever I want - so that means straight to mahjong!
there’s minimal talking while playing mahjong, so it’s not exactly optimal for my listening practice, but still…

Oh it’s been ages since I watched Akane! Went through the first few minutes of that and it was nice to see I can kinda just relax and follow everything she’s saying. Haven’t checked for progress in that way in a while so thanks for posting that

Today I had quite the opposite experience: I came across this news video https://youtu.be/rrlDUiOa57E about a new court ruling regarding toilet usage rights for trans people, so I figured I should give it a shot, but omg I am so so bad at picking up jukugo in speech 
and basically understood… nothing

Learn Japanese with Noriko 7 and 8 (~11 min)
Finished the episode of Yuyu I hadn’t managed too. Funny enough, Yuyu is a bit too hard for me (sometimes), Noriko is a bit too easy, and Tanaka seems just about right for now. It’s funny to compare and notice the different levels.

It was late by the time I got around to doing my listening today, so I listened to a 3 episodes of Nihongo con Teppei for Beginners since I thought I was a bit too tired to attempt an episode of Shadows House.

I took a break yesterday from listening to any Japanese or watching Deadpool (4 Japanese listening done) as I am tired and felt like I would burn out, but I received some JLPT N3 books yesterday from a friend and feel re-energized as I am now going to push my way to lower intermediate somehow in the next few months. Today I plan to listen intensively to Yuyu as usual and maybe Miku Real Japanese. Yosh!!

I listened to 3 episodes Nihongo con Teppei Z, which kinda almost became routine now. Today I listened to 3 episodes too, + the first episode of "learning japanese trough bizarre stories "
Something like that.
I really want to try listening to something else at this point, but it’s so hot these days I can hardly get the motivation. I feel like I just napped for 30 minutes today or something.
Also, weirdly enough I am also coming down with a cold or so it seems, maybe because of the air conditioning everywhere. I know I should be grateful, but changing between 35 and 20 degrees all the time is tough in it’s own way.

I was curious about this:
And decided to give it a listen, and yep, I can concur, I understood practically nothing, maybe like 5% which was only being able to determine when they ended a sentence with “ます”. It’s only a minute long, yet it felt like five, I was hopelessly lost.
I played more Yakuza 0 last night, onto Chapter 3! Chapter 2 was going quite well until the drunken homeless guys came along, they were rather difficult to understand, one guy didn’t do commas, full stops or pauses, he just spoke a paragraph-long word.

This is a playlist on the official Kirby Youtube channel that presents voiced videos of the Kirby storybooks. It contains seven very short videos, though on Wikipedia I saw that two more stories are supposed to come out. Sadly, it doesn’t have subtitles, not even auto-generated ones, so lookups are a pain.
I’m watching them all today because they are unbearable cute, but I’ll probably rewatch it later at slower speed and more lookups.

YUYUの日本語ポッドキャスト #90 (13 min)
I’m burning out on YUYU lately because that’s what I’ve listened to for two weeks straight at this point. I still like the podcast a lot but I need variety so might listen to something else the next few days. Lately I’ve been toying with the idea of trying Crunchyroll for a bit, check the free trial and see if I like it. I’m sort of in the mood for some anime. I have the weirdest relationship with anime: I’ve loved it in the past, and I used to have periods of binging it, but then have periods of literally years where I don’t watch it at all, then binge something again, and repeat 
. And now after a very long time I’m feeling that mild itch again, so I might explore it.

I watched episode 6 of Shadows House today. Had a few bits that were hard to follow today since I struggle a bit with long sentences - but I definitely got the gist of the majority of what I was hearing.

This is great!!! Thanks so much for linking, I had no idea this existed. The slow talking with the repetitions and the drawings really help to understand more.
I will be adding those videos to my other listening practise. I’ve been listening to Nihongo Con Teppei for beginners and am enjoying that as well. I decided I’ll be responding to the questions raised in each episode for my writing practise. Some episode are quite easy for me so I think this will keep me more engaged.
