Day 29! More Lost Judgment, finished chapter 2. Overall not too bad again. Was thrown off here and there by some slang from the high schooler delinquents and parts where I kinda knew the words but what they were alluding to was kind of escaping me – mostly flavor details more than missing anything big. I pause for the log sometimes but not in a super disruptive way these past couple days anyway.
Was poking around looking at the background details and found this cute flu prevention poster. Thanks to my language learning efforts, I know all about しっかりマスク and ピカピカ手洗い!

Not much these days since I was away for the weekend, but still wanted to sneak at least a couple of minutes of listening each day. I’ll try to make up for it in the next few days - maybe start Kurzgesagt tomorrow, or watch episode 4 of できる猫は今日も有痛 which is already out.
Today I watched episode 8 of Shadows House. I’m relying on already knowing the story to properly understand whats going on, but its really nice being able to watch something without subtitles!
Rebuild podcast (40 min). I feel like I shouldn’t dabble into native podcasts too much at this point (beyond a few ten minutes), but too little and I will forget the goal and attempt to focus.
Measures against COVID-19
Interesting to see which measures where used in another country. For example, the having to gargle water regularly is something I had never heard of where I’m from.
Mountain Climbing
Hm, interesting. It seems WaniKani teaches an easier version of the verb “to climb” first. I mean, it makes sense to use the kanji for “up” for this, but it seems I need to take a closer look at the meaning’s nuance. It seems I’m not the only one with this realization, as there is this discussion on StackExchange.

Temples VS Shrines お寺と神社- Intermediate Japanese 日本語中級 (~5 min)
Asides from my usual podcasts, I got started on the final part of Kurzgesagt and on chapter 3 of Tobira. This chapter of Tobira focuses on technology, and I felt like there were already some harder words I wasn’t familiar with, so I’ll definitely have to pay closer attention and maybe listen to it again. And then I also checked a video from Comprehensible Japanese, since I see it here a lot and was curious to give it a try. Loved the video and the drawings to explain the differences between Shinto and Buddhism - I’m definitely checking her videos again.
Since most of my immersion this summer is reading based on Satori Reader (which still includes audio) I spent only an hour listening to podcasts on my commute from work. Nihongo con Teppei Z

I also tried to watch an episode of Cowboy Bebop, but I really struggled to understand it without the subs. Oh well, perhaps in the future - for now, I still need subs for this one.
I had one of those nights where I meant to get loads of stuff done, but then suddenly it was really late and I was tired and I hadn’t done much…
So just a little listen tonight - 2 episodes of Nihongo con Teppei for Beginners.
Iiiiii have not been doing a great job of doing my dedicated listening practice, whoops I have still been listening to a lot of music in japanese, but pretty minimal videos/streams/podcasts or anything in the last few weeks. I’d guess I’ve been hitting my 10 minutes/day just because I generally spend more than that in the car? but it feels wrong to count it, so I won’t.
Today I watched about an hour of a nene minecraft stream, and that’s probably the first good actual chunk of listening I’ve done in a while.
It also felt important to share this very special listening practice though, the tiny shark anime started! (like the manga is “reading practice” this is definitely “listening practice”, but it’s very cute)
Thus far, an hour of listening with one Yuyu podcast and one Shun Podcast (with Yuyu’s host as a guest). Also, listened to each chapter of the remaining chapters of The Jam Maker on Satori Reader after which I read them myself (which I count as both listening and reading).
Japanese Art - specifically talking about 富嶽三十六景(Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji). Also, whenever Japanese and art come up I can’t help but remember how similar cat and drawing look (猫 vs. 描) and then I think of the beginning of Aristocats. Can I make this into a mnemonic somehow?
I understood everything but I’m not so sure I actually picked out the Japanese words rather than just absorbed cute shark through the screen, but I guess one and a half minutes listening is still listening, but that’s just my excuse to watch the cute shark.
The main thing I watched today was a road trip and visiting an art gallery and other places from the best softly spoken Japanese channel:
I’m still reading the JP subs a lot of the time, but I’m understanding the gist of it, just need to work more on listening not listen-reading.
I also got some Yakuza 0 in last night, though I spent a lot of the time just punching the bad guys in their bad guy faces, but there was a least one cut scene for listening practice.
