Two more episodes of 極主夫道. 美久’s mother is played by an actress I recognized as a Terrace House host. Goes by the name You. I find her voice intriguing.
I love the 極主夫道 manga but these forty-five minute live action episodes have brought it to such an unexpected wonderful place for me. Funny to the point that I have to restrain myself. Stifling my laughter to avoid waking people.
3 episodes from Japanese with Shun. I’m genuinely curious about Shun’s life now, mostly because it’s so different from mine (duh) and because I like to romanticize strangers’ lives.
The episodes are getting a little harder to understand. I think, to match the pace of reading/listening resources, I really need to start focusing more on grammar. Otherwise, the episodes were really fun. They were about karaoke, toilets in Japan, and sleep. The karaoke episode was hard to understand because it had really difficult and new words.
We did some listening (and interpreting) in class yesterday, using this video. If you ever wanted to learn about Japanese wood architecture and about Japanese architect Kuma Kengo, this is your chance.
Today I watched the final episode of Rilakkuma’s Theme Park Adventure.
I enjoyed this series, though I found it a bit tougher to understand overall than Rilakkuma and Kaoru was - possibly because the theme park setting meant that there was more vocab that I was unfamiliar with.

Missed I was exhausted, had to work later than planned, and my computer decided to have a mental breakdown after that, so…yeah lol

What did I listen to?: The Akane Nara vlog (thank you @pyr_3 for recommending~)
How much time did I spend listening?: ~10 min
I confess I did skip the opening part where she was talking about some sort of event - forget that, give me deer LOL. This vlog reminded me of my first trip to Japan (where I also went to Nara, but that’s not why it reminded me of that lol - it was more just that feeling of walking around, and seeing the streets, and the train stations…why is Japan so relaxing and pretty)
【#朝ミオ寝起き逆凸 】朝ミオ&朝こよの寝起き逆凸!【GW企画】 - YouTube ~15 minutes - there’s some event going on for golden week where some members are calling other members to bother them for a bit, so we get a bonus 朝ミオ this week where we’re calling people early in the morning to wake them up. Mio explained the purpose of the event at the beginning but I didn’t quite entirely follow, presumably to kinda network and do fun collaborations that normally wouldn’t happen. I guess 逆凸 is a skype related term? 逆凸とは (ギャクトツとは) [単語記事] - ニコニコ大百科, which would explain why they are calling them on skype instead of having them in higher quality audio like they normally would.
Probably the first thing I’ve made just from watching videos/reading recipes in japanese! Not a particularly hard thing to make, and some things i had to kinda figure out on the fly, but still!
Read Real Japanese Essays again today. 料理 角田光代. Listened, listened reading along, thorough read through, listened again. A noticeable step up in difficulty from the previous essays.
2 episodes from Nihongo Con Teppei. The first epidoe was easy to understand, but I found it hard to grasp the meaning of a few words in the second ep. I found some fun listening resources that I want to try, so hopefully my listening skills improves before I get to them.
Today I watched the latest video from Speak Japanese Naturally:
About flowers in bloom at a place near Mt. Fuji. This place looks amazing, I love the view of Mt. Fuji, with the pink flowers and the trees backing it all with a perfect strip of clouds.
Also found it amusing how there was a ton of Peter Rabbit merchandise, wasn’t really expecting to see something so English in the middle of Japan.
okay, I just looked it up, seems that Japan is actually mad about Peter Rabbit
I understood quite a bit I think, the Japanese subs really help! I think this has quickly become one of my favourite channels.
I also listened to/watched two vids from @windupbird’s collection of cute animal videos:
On the capybara mandarin sequel, does the woman talking have a capybara as a microphone?!
so cute (I also love how disappointed the crowd sounded when the mandarin tumbled
Oh man, looks so good. I hope it was devoured good!
Nihongo con Teppei - Episode 17 - 18
Finally caught up to where I last left off. I appreciate the format of easy first half and then somewhat more difficult, conversational later half. I’m looking forward to when I’m relistening to this many years later.
That gives me an idea: I think I’ll set myself the goal to revisit certain things at the beginning of each year of study. If they become too easy, I’ll move on from them. But for 日本語こんてっぺい I want to see next year how much I can understand from these early episodes. Maybe I’ll do one early episode and one where I’m further along the line for comparison?
I have been enjoying the 硝子の塔の殺人 audiobook a lot. I’m not sure if certain voices got less annoying or it’s just that I’m enjoying the story so much, but even when they shout and shriek excitedly I don’t mind at all. And the narration in between the dialogue is nicely calm and even. A very good balance.

What did I listen to?: Akane Korea travel vlog
How much time did I spend listening?: ~13 min
I saw this video pop up as a recommended video - what a lovely intersection of my interests xD I have not been to Korea but am curious how it would be to go there so this was right up my alley ^^ The WowPass seems hella convenient, I would definitely use that lol
I want to eat this so bad?? It looks amazing 牛丼 is low-key one of my favorite foods, I wish that I was in any way skilled enough to make that (you say not particularly hard to make but respectfully all cooking is hard to me lmao)
OH MY GOODNESS I think so That’s adorable, I didn’t even notice
