Wow, you captured them in screenshots, I’m impressed
That’s certainly doable! I’m also considering something like having a minimum distance that they have to be away from the previously spawned item. As long as they don’t spawn in the same spot a few times in a row, then they won’t touch each other unless the speeds are different, and then it’s not such a big deal.
Ooo nice, that would be fun!
That would be great for the people who want to skip the easy levels, I just have to figure out the details of how it will work. Maybe the option to jump ahead to any of the first 10 or so levels at any point? Or there could be another screen before you start that lets you pick any of the named levels.
That would be a great custom mode! Maybe even no score or lives so you can practice in a completely chill way.
Those are ソ so and ン n, by the way. They are way too similar, they can take a while to learn!
Oh, in the app store? Whoops
That would take more work (of the less enjoyable kind), and money, so I probably won’t do it any time soon
Don’t be. I just hit PrtSc, and ctrl-v’d it into Paint. Then cropped out the kanjiroids screen so no one will judge me on how many tabs I keep open in my browser.
That was the other option I was considering suggesting, but perhaps both combined would make for the best experience (I’m thinking at higher levels, when you have sentences scrolling by or something!)… Like 3-5 kana height minimum before the next one appears below it (in the same lane) with some randomization as to which lane it will appear in, too. (Sorry, I do hobby game dev once a year for a 48 hour jam with a friend - last year I was the designer when usually I focus on art and story only… so I’ve often been “programmer adjacent” I call it. XD)
I didn’t think that far ahead, that would certainly exacerbate the issue! You’re on another level
That’s awesome! I did a 12 hour game dev marathon with a few friends last year, it was a lot of fun.
My wife is an artist so she gets dibs, but if she decides that game art isn’t her thing I’ll let you know!
I can do art, but I don’t practice much so it would take me a loong time
Hi there! I just tried out your game and it’s really neat! I’ll definitely continue using it in the future :3 thank you for making it!
Perhaps this is a more niche suggestion, but one of the things i struggle with is recognizing stylized fonts and the like. Perhaps using different fonts as the levels increase could be helpful to some people? Not just overly stylized fonts, but maybe handwriting vs computer typeface, for example.
Regardless, you’ve done a wonderful job on this and I look forward to future updates!
I felt the same way initially in the early levels, but later it’s pretty handy…
So I don’t know… XD
Ah, fair enough. Besides, you probably only want basic GUI for something like this, right? I’ll let her - like I said, I’m pretty busy with school. (And… now that I’m playing an MMO again when I shouldn’t…)
Scores now bigger and better (like an arcade game!)
Hits tell you exactly how many you got right
I actually did slightly worse in my test round than last update, but look at that score!
Connection to WK account coming soon!
Oooh, I like it
I’m thinking of solutions to this, it would make it waaaay harder at level 10+. One solution may be to decrease the chance of an item appearing if it’s already on the screen, or something along those lines to increase variety. This may actually be a bigger problem when it comes to kanji reading with all those keis and kyous
Maybe after an x amount of right answers and no mistypes everything on the screen moves down slightly as a little boost for getting everything correct in a row.
That’s if you go by reading, not by character! Each kanji character is different. If you include vocab/jukugo words as one set unit as well, it may solve this (but increase the size of your database, I’m guessing???).
1 issue right away: the size of the screen!
I have screenshots, but just like with my old phone discourse won’t accept uploads (claims a memory issue - I believed on my old phone but not this one!)
2 I tried to type つ and it came out たたつ which I had to backspace and retype to fix. Unsure if it’s a bug or because it’s slightly raining here as I wait for the bus.
Yep, I managed to get it to level 3 with needing to swipe right and left sometimes - at least one and a half “lanes” of kana were unseen, if not two and a half.
Also, whenever I entered something the screen would pop down, making the entry area smaller and smaller or hide under my keyboard (this is playing in Chrome on mobile phone). Much of the screen moves around on mobile. It could use to be fixed.
Finally, while I believe the wanakana is working, shouldn’t ん require typing “NN”? I think it was going to accept a single N. Especially as it’s a good habit for learners of Japanese to get into…
