I’m finding this helpful. Posting in case it helps anyone else. I don’t usually read manga, so I get confused easily by this stuff 
I had confused 彼 with 我 in the beginning and didn’t understand [になるために]. Now it make sense, thank you.
As I mentioned in the main thread, I have decided to save money by renting volumes instead of buying them. The problem is that I can only keep a given book for 2 days, so I just finished the first volume. Interestingly, the titles of the chapters are different. Also, the volume itself is titled 侵略者ディオの巻.
Otherwise, it was a fun read, despite being pretty gory at times. Without going into any details (because I’m way ahead of schedule), I would say that Dio is a pretty good villain. (I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say so, since it’s right in the title). I saw a few scenes that I had seen before on the Internet (well, on the WK forums at least) and now I understand they were JoJo references.
In terms of difficulty, I’d say the beginning of the prologue would be the hardest for beginners since it uses fairly dated grammar to give an impression that things are happening way in the past. It gets better as soon as we are back to the “modern” area.
I do not know yet if I will wait for everyone to get to volume 2 before renting it or if I should just move ahead with the story

And on the tonkoubon covers of volumes 1, 3, and 5, Jonathan and Dio are posing like they’re partners. Isn’t the point that the reader is supposed to hate Dio from the beginning? It seems misleading.
More of a beginner question here because this is my first time actually reading something in Japanese rather than song lyrics, but what is a good reading strategy? I can make it through a page and understand what’s going on and then go back and look up the words I didn’t know, but I’m coming across a lot of verb forms/grammar that I’m not familiar with, and I’m not sure how or where to look these up or if there’s a faster way to read.
You can use something like ichi.moe to aid you in parsing the sentences.

Personally if I do not know the exact meaning of a sentence I try to make an educated guess so not to interrupt the reading too often.
By this I mean that if I understand every kanji in a sentence (or the vast majority), the verb and it’s conjugation but I do not understand the grammar(or not fully) then I try to guess what would make sense and if that seems to fit then I am happy and I continue reading.
The advantage is that you will have to interrupt the reading less often, and this makes it more enjoyable for me, the disadvantage is that you will miss some details here and there

Yeah, it’s pretty frustrating when the reading flow is interrupted, but I do want to be able to learn more. I think I’ll stick with going through the pages then going back when I have the time to. I have way more empathy for the students I used to work with learning English, ha ha.

On page 14, Dario says 「ひとり息子のおめえだけだ」
I translated this as “you’re my only son” (?), but I’m not sure why he’s using the の particle here, could someone explain?
(This is probably pretty common in Japanese and I’ve just never seen it before )
I can’t find that quote in my copy (am I reading the wrong comic?) but の substitutes が in subordinate phrases. if that helps?
Edit: I found the sentence and looking at it in context, I think I’m right?

What do we all think of these first two chapters? About Dio, about Jonathan? The overly sexed girl on the very first page? Most here are already familiar with the story, but we have some new readers IIRC. And there’s been no words added to the vocab spreadsheet, which is perhaps a good thing?

Before commenting, can you remind me where that part stops? Since I had to read the full volume in a single seating, it makes it hard to remember the divisions…
This week’s reading ends right after the boxing match (page 61 in the original tankoubon release).
Not caught up yet. Had to travel unexpectedly, so have been struggling just to keep up with reviews.
Yeah I’m fell behind a bit, too. Luckily I’m off from work tomorrow so I’m try to catch back up.
