JLPT 2022 thread(Results out now!)

Can definitely second that. I failed my N2 last June and the thing I was missing the most was just overall proficiency which would’ve made reading and listening way easier. Cramming only for the test isn’t all that helpful, since N2 and N1 require way higher comprehension overall.

@Milgram , @grahpou you guys are some serious madlads! Congrats! :joy:

@Myria what the hell! :joy:

It seems @Jonapedia has a poke rival!

Passed N4 :grinning: I was actually considering not going to the December session, as I didn’t feel ready (I took a break from studies in June and didn’t resume). Well, I now feel more motivated to finally resume my studies. Especially with a 3-week trip to Japan this spring.

N3 I got 180/180! Last December I took N4 and also got 100. I really hope I can continue the streak and get full score for N2 . Been learning Japanese for 3 years now…but I didn’t study specifically for the JLPT, sort just studied what the language school taught me (but took the time to be interested in everything that was taught to me) and watched a lot of YouTube and Japanese books. I would say that studying for the joy of studying and not really aiming to get a specific mark is the key to doing well. Also I think having a time line , like " I need to pass JLPT in 6 months" or “must learn 10000 vocabulary in 3 months” gives me a lot of anxiety. I also do wanikani daily. Also I think just mastering the basic of what is in N4 and N5 really well helps. I mean a lot of times people can read and understand those N5 test, but how many people can reproduce the same sentence at the same speed on command. While the exam may not test your real Japanese abilities, but having a solid foundation is going to advance you so much more than just aiming for a level beyond your current ability.

I passed N5!
Nice to have something to point to after learning Japanese for a while.

I just barely didn’t make it
I thought getting 33% in listening was going to be the problem but turns out it was the overall score.
Oh well, definitely going to take it again this year then.

Tbf, given that I’ve only barely passed N3 half a year earlier, getting this close isn’t even that bad.
Still, I am a little disappointed but hey, that’s how it goes sometimes.

Congrats to everyone who passed!
And greetings to the Düsseldorf N2 group

I failed N4 but I was prepared for that and feel like I can pass in July. Obviously listening is my weak point so even getting the bare minimum was a boost though disappointing I didn’t manage enough on the others to pass overall.

Oh, sorry. Wasn’t intended to be mean… Man missing by 1 point must suck though
You got this easily the next time, though.

This is such an inspirational thread. Well done to everyone, however you did. It feels like WK has the largest online collection of JLPT-ers!

I’m definitely doing my first 2 JLPT exams this year in London. I currently have no idea which levels. I have until march(?) to decide.

HOLEE MOLY!!

So happy finally passing this. Second attempt at N1. I was so sure I was gonna bomb some section; guess my instincts guided me through. I had failed all my JLPT’s before this xD (N4,N3,N1). Feels like a burden off my chest . Not sure what to do with it now, though, besides the internet points .

It’s great to see that so many passed.

I was disappointed to discover that I did not pass the N4 on my first attempt.

Even though my score on both sections was greater than the individual section minimum passing score, my total score of 87/180 was just below the overall minimum passing score of 90/180. I know that my grammar knowledge is weak - but I had expected to do better on the reading and listening sections.

I’m just starting my WK journey, and will continue my studying (using other sources as well). I’m doing this for personal enrichment rather than aiming for future job opportunities, and so while the JLPT is not a necessity, it serves as a useful marker. Depending on how well I can advance with WK by late summer I will decide whether to try the N4 again in 2023 or give the N3 a shot.

Congrats to everyone who passed their JLPT exams :tada:

Good luck to everyone else :crossed_fingers:

I missed mine by a point :joy:

I passed N5! :tada:
I’m really happy with my scores as well. The listening section was considerably more difficult than the practice tests I had done before which threw me off a little and made it harder to keep concentrating on what was being said. So I’m very pleased that I managed to get so many things right apparently.

I was a little unsure if I would be able to pass using only Genki 1 for grammar. I’m happy to report that it was more than sufficient.

Oh hey, so close
But don’t worry, I failed by two points on my first attempt but passed the next time so I’m sure you will pass as well in summer! :flexed_biceps:

I just barely passed N4! By two points. I will take it. The listening turned out a bit better than expected.

Unfortunately failed N1. Seems I need to work on pretty much everything a bit more. Will be taking again in July probably and try to make sure I pass this time.

I know it’s not a big deal, but I passed N5 on my first attempt, after a little over a year since I started learning Japanese. I’m hoping I can get to N4 by the next exam in December.

Ohh, i passed N3 =). Vocabulary was pretty easy as a Wanikani user. But i had to cram Grammar Points 2 weeks before the exam since this is one of my weak points (Did bunpro n5 to all n3 grammar points in these 2 weeks . .should have skipped n5, n4 honestly). Otherwise i did some test exams 2 days before the exam.

I knew it would be on the “giri giri” side.

Even though reading is the lowest score, im suprised it was not even lower. Reading the text was easy (presumably) and im fast enough but reading the questions afterwards showed me that i might understand less than i think i do (like some people above actually mentioned as well).

Either way, im happy. I guess N2 next winter then~
