Jlpt 2018! (Results are now online!)

Everyone talks about passing the exams, but no one mentioned yet that registering to fail might also be important. Much like the n+1 concept, even if you’re not yet absolutely comfortable with Nx level, you could still go for it.

For example, I have yet to access my results from last Dezember’s N4, but I’m still going after N3 in July/N2 in December, no matter if I failed this last JLPT or if I’ll be able to get ready or not. I might not pass, but I’m sure that I’ll be at least close enough to do it. Failing also helps keeping ourselves grounded. “There’s still a lot I don’t know, so let’s continue the journey.”

I really think it’s better to go for it and fail, than never try at all.

I might try for N3 in December. I just passed N4 (and only just) but I have all year to study so if I start now maybe I will have some confidence later in the year but it will be a long way to get there because I know that personally I will have to do a lot of study to get to that level.

I failed N2 this past test, I missed passing by a few points  It’s frustrating, but at least now I know how close I am! it’s made me more motivated than ever to pass this coming July!

I think I’ll be re-taking the N3 since I missed it by about 9 points. I didn’t fail any of the sections, I just didn’t get enough overall points. ;-; But! I will best this exam in July!

That is something that I have actually been going back and forth on. I failed the N3, but my goal is to reach N2 level. I don’t know which level I should end up taking to be honest,

I don’t really think you should be worrying about it now. Since you failed N3, I can guess there’s still a bunch of stuff to check/review. Start from that. You don’t need to make the decision right now (unless you need the N2 certificate for a job or something). Trying to think about it will only distract you from your current goal (N3).

When the registrations for the JLPT open again, see where you are and how much time you have left. When that time comes, you might still having problems with the N3 stuff or you might have already started N2! But you can’t really guess this right now.

Just my 2 cents though

I am going to take the plunge and attempt N5 in December this year.
Regardless of how useful it may or may not be I want to use it more as a self assessment goal.

Well, my main goal is taking the N4 exam in December, but now that I see the dates in front of me I feel actually tempted to take the N5 in July. To check out the venue. :relaxed:

Why not try for July?
I’m also going for N5 this year. But I figured that going for July will put a bit of urgency into my studies! Here’s hoping!
And good luck!

My guess, @Gitch lives in US, where there are no July tests. Stupid US.

Good luck!

I honestly want to take N5 as a joke. I’m taking N1 this year so I can just slap it on my resume.

That’s an expensive joke, haha!

Apparently you can already fill out the registration forms for some locations. E.g. Düsseldorf already has the form online but Hamburg doesn’t (should be available in 3 days).

Does it make any difference if you sign up via a form or the internet when looking up the results later? I’m assuming no and you just need your voucer/number thing but I don’t know for sure.

You’ll need the registration number (on the voucher) and the password you enter upon registering

Going to aim for the N4 this year! I wish USA had July test dates or else I would take the test then. I missed last December’s test due to being sick. Oh well, more time to study!
