[iOS] Tsurukame - native app with offline lessons and reviews

By the way - I haven’t seen it being mentioned somewhere before, but has anyone an idea of how the new Kana Vocabulary may affect Tsurukame?
People using “FlamingDurtles” on Android have over on the announcement thread a - let’s say - rather “loud discussion” regarding if the client might break or not, and are currently making preventive fixes ahead. In contrast to that, it seems very quiet about Tsurukame.

Just a question, since that may make me investigate in the code - but maybe somebody already has a general overview. Personally, I am pretty happy about the inclusion of Kana vocab

I haven’t tested it, but my guess is that Tsurukame ignores the item

I guessed so, thanks for confirming :hugs:

Not sure whether I find that a worse or better behaviour than Flaming Durtles (it treats unknown items as Radicals, which words for Kana, since they both share one type of question, but may cause issues in the database, I’m not sure).

Ironically, while I’ve done all this work to get a fork of Flaming Durtles ready for primetime with fixes in place, I’m actually an iOS user and use Trusukame personally. Thankfully @davidsansome appears to still be maintaining this app and has pushed updates out in the last six months, which is more promising than the three years of no commits to the FD repo.

I say thankfully, because while I was happy to pay £19 to publish the FD fork, I can’t justify the £100 Apple Developer fee!

I have opened a GitHub issue for the feature request.

I have been following the discussion out of curiosity, and I really like your engagement to help the community.
You’re awesome! :+1:

We can be indeed very glad that davidsansome still publishes updates - despite that he was last active in the forum 2-3 years ago. Especially the (recurring!) 100$ developer fee is something we should be very thankful for. Though, I have the feeling that because of these reasons it might also not take too long until he also goes on other tasks in his life and may abandon Tsurukame, which I totally understand.

Indeed. Amazingly, he’s publishing an App Store release today for kana-only vocab according to the issue.

Wow! I want to treat him a coffee at least if he has a support page

Hi! I wrapped up some lessons the other day on Tsurukame, but all of a sudden, the app crashed. I logged out and back in using my API token, but it’s not showing any data. I love Tsurukame, so I’m wondering how to fix this. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

This is also happening to me. I believe this started at 6pm EST.

There is currently some API issues. Wait for Tofugu staff to resolve the issues. @yazadd @gemsnatcher

EDIT: Issue was resolved within 2 hours and API is already working again.

Hi  Sorry if this was already reported, but I consistently have issues with Anki mode -

Say I have like 30 reviews to do, I complete them, then I end up force refreshing. I then see there’s 1-2 reviews again, but they’re ones I already answered in the previous 30. I try answering them again and once again those same 1-2 reviews just don’t seem to actually save. I can try this over and over again but ultimately I have to turn off anki mode or complete them on the website.

I can start gathering a list, but so far I can’t really see a pattern…however i seem to have the same issue with the same vocab on every mastery level (apprentice, guru, etc). let me know what info I can give to help with this

Do you have this problem since a while already? The reviews not getting synced sounds like an issue related to the current API glitch.

But it sounds like you have this issue for a while… I never used Anki mode, so maybe someone else has experience with it?

Yea, I started using anki mode about a month ago and it’s been an issue since I started using it

I checked the GitHub repo and found one issue ticket that sounds similar to the issue you described.

I cite the workaround below:

So, it sounds like a bug that hasn’t been fixed yet.

I just took a look at that and I thinkkkkk the issue I’m having is different, because I have my issue with the same vocab at different stages - and I can try over and over again to clear them (even going super slow) but nothing I do works until I turn off anki mode. Like I can try 10 times in a row (have literally tried this lol) and it still won’t clear until I turn off anki mode

I see. Sorry to not be that much of a help. We can tag @UInt2048 and hope he knows more certain what might cause that glitch. I had the impression he knows the technical details about Tsurukame a bit better.

There was an issue during the below interval. Is this what you’re referring to? It’s resolved now if so.

It seems to be unrelated to that one. Here is the explanation from melisma:

I don’t use Anki mode, so I couldn’t really help here  Sorry for that

If it’s the issue you linked, I created a fix in that issue but I need someone to build & test adding that change before I would make a PR
