iOS issue: WaniKani audio permanently takes over Lock Screen media controls

On Android, I can listen to Spotify while doing reviews. When a pronunciation clip plays, Spotify pauses and automatically resumes afterwards.

On iOS (tested in both Safari and Brave), the pronunciation clip pauses Spotify, but after it finishes, the Lock Screen media controls remain assigned to WaniKani instead of Spotify. Spotify never automatically resumes and has to be started manually.

Has anyone else seen this? Is this an iOS/WebKit limitation, or is there a way for WaniKani to relinquish the media session after playback?

I think it’s an iOS limitation. When it’s an app with a temporary audio piece (like navigation), the app is able to control if it pauses other audio and resumes or speaks over it. But when you play the pronunciation clips in the browser, I think you’re explicitly telling iOS that you want to play this audio, so it stops the other audio and doesn’t resume. I’ve never done iOS development, so I could be wrong, but I suspect it’s not possible.
