[iOS / Android / Web] Juken - Review App for WaniKani

Thanks for creating this! I gave it a try (web version) but I somehow found my reviews (slightly) slower than normal wanikani.

My top feature request is reading-meaning back-to-back. When the order is random I basically end up thinking of the reading and meaning for each card anyway.

@oguzgelal Hi! Your app looks amazing! I was thinking that the no type would make it great for the Apple Watch! Do you have plans to port it to apple watch?

Thanks for the feedback. Yep, that feature is already on the roadmap. I haven’t had much time on working on the app lately, but I’ll be sure to get to it as soon as I pick up my pace again.

Thank you. Well I haven’t thought about it before, but I think it’s a good idea. I don’t see why not given that the only interaction you do is to swipe left or right. I created a ticket for it. It probably won’t be a priority, but definitely would be a nice addition for the next versions.

Thanks! I might try to figure it out with the source code, but I have almost no experience so I most likely won’t get anywhere.

Thanks for the app! I love the idea and it’s so much quicker than typing (especially because I tend to make typos…). Unfortunately, it always fails to upload the reviews… I don’t know if that’s been mentioned yet?
I’m on Android 9, phone is a bit old-ish (Sony Xperia XZ1 compact). I do have another WK app on my phone, just fyi, in case this is relevant.

Also, just a minor thing. Is there a way to force the light theme? My phone is set to dark mode and flipping the toggle switch won’t override that, I suppose.

Anyway, the app is really nice. Will make reviewing on the go a lot quicker.

i’ve started working on the back-to-back feature. i’ll submit a pull request when i’m done.
edit: pull request has been merged!

Thanks @sawagu @mikey2806, PR’s are always welcome

@qiwi hmm, honestly I only tested it on an Android emulator. Would you submitting a ticket at GitHub - oguzgelal/juken: Review App for WaniKani, and I’ll take a look when I can.

I submitted a ticket. Hope I did it correctly, that was a first for me
Thanks for eventually looking into it.
My phone might just be too old though. Other apps (like Bunpo: Learn Japanese) aren’t working on it either. I’ll probably get a new phone in September, so should that change anything - or not - then I’ll let you know.

Thank you  I’ll look into it when I can!

Hey, just letting you know that the problem I mentioned was caused by my own stupidity.
I unknowingly used a “read-only” API so of course it didn’t upload anything. I generated a new one with more rights and now it works like a charm!
I’ll mark the ticket as solved after work. Sorry for the trouble haha

Thank you so much! My main area of frustration with wanikani is the reviews (and my fat fingers) I’m so happy this will make it easier for me! Thank you for your hard work!!!

BTW - just curious what Tsurukame should be doing for Level 60 that it isn’t…

Really good work. I will use it.
Thank you!

Dude this is amazing. I’m really time poor lately but still want to be able to review and this is exactly what I need to stop putting it off.

+1 for more info in reviews would be a nice to have, along with integrating one the sentence context type scripts, otherwise this is a godsend!

Also props for using RN and RN Web!

Nice app, this will be helpful! However I tried a couple of separate review sessions but could not submit reviews. Attempted to use ‘retry’ but no luck (my internet connection was stable), any suggestions? Edit: using ios

Hey, are you certain that you gave the correct level of permissions to Juken ? If your token did not have write permission this is expected. Also for the sake of debugging, could you try using a different internet connection and / or a different device (if you reproduced this from the app, could you give juken.io on a browser a shot) ?

Thanks!
