I'm in Japan Now (hurrah) but can't order an atsui ko-hi-

A caffè macchiato might not have been what you wanted either, it’s often an espresso with a bit of milk foam

That was precisely what I wanted

I’ve done so much this trip I couldn’t possibly sum it up … but my strategy (I’m one of those) is preparation, and I’ve had 3 years to prepare since this was originally booked for March 2020. I bought two books, “Tokyo: 29 Walks in the World’s Most Exciting City,” and “Kyoto: 29 Walks in Japan’s Ancient Capital” and I’ve simply attempted to see as much as I can from them. Not possible to do it all, not even in 17 days, but I can come back. I bought the Kindle version for easy portability.

I also used Tripadvisor and other sites to find where I’d want to shop, have coffee, get great dessert, etc., and I marked all of these AND the stops in the walking tours on Mapstr which I find the most usable for this sort of thing–so wherever I am, I can see what’s nearby that I have already vetted. (And if nothing’s nearby, I go to the first place I can find, and they’ve all been wonderful, so so much for prior research).

And here is my favourite Starbucks so far, as far as view goes:

(That’s next to the 六角堂 (Rokkaku-do) in Kyoto).

Though in general I would recommend ordering how the menu has is listed (like, saizu ess/em/el) I have had great success in ordering the ooki biru in the past. :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Really? I think I’ve rarely used beer. It’s always 生 ^^

Torikizoku’s menu had two namas, the regular, and the ooki. Both same price, 280 yen. Difference was the quality (real beer vs happoshu) but after a few you could upgrade and not notice the difference. Unsure if the menu still has the same format.

Ah right, 4 years not in Japan and totally forgot that something like happoshu exists…

While relating my happoshu memory I forgot to mention my actual point. The correct sizes in this case are chuu and dai. This is one case where just making stuff up has yielded a positive result. Typically it does not. 大生 absolutely does not read as ookibiru but calling it that might still get you a large beer broughtnto your table.

Side note, i went to Gusto yesterday to study and the nama was a cool ¥328 but even more exciting, it was delivered by a cat robot!
