Most people probably already noticed the pattern the first few times they learn a kanji with that radical. It’s only said after you get to level 60, and it’s the last kanji you learn that has the squid radical (Maybe the 倹 kanji was in a much lower level and it got moved?). It should be said right when you learn 験.

Yeah generally WaniKani really should put more focus on phonetic components. You can use the keisei userscript to help with that:
