This isn’t really that unique of a post, but I’m proud of myself and I wanted to give others in my situation the motivation to give it a try.
When I started using WaniKani, I made it all the way to level 13 but then for one reason or another I stopped doing my reviews for about a year. I finally got the courage to come back and there were >1600 reviews that had piled up. I strongly considered resetting, but I decided to give it a shot and began going through my reviews – starting at the lowest level and working my way up. I did a little bit every day and now, 2 months later, I’ve finally hit 0 reviews!
So, if you’ve taken a break and are now deciding what to do with all the reviews you have, just take it one step at a time! I was actually shocked at how much kanji and vocabulary I had retained even after such a long break. WaniKani really works!
I’m at level 12, still on vacation mode, prepping to resume WK ‘soon’ by first attacking an N4 Anki deck to get back in the swing of things - I have a ton of reviews stacked up, but will bite the bullet and handle them until they’re over and done.
Hey, same here! I’m currently at >330 days on level 11, but I managed to get through all of my reviews last week and finally start doing lessons again. It feels amazing actually learning new stuff and not rehashing the same ol’ content!
I love hearing “WaniKani really works” type reviews. I’m always afraid I’ll put so much effort into and then wonder what it was all for. When people tell of what it has done for them, it gives me the motivation to keep going.
Similar situation here, at level 14-- had stopped for a year except I did reset ! I figured, since I was even forgetting early radical names, I might as well start fresh (which to be fair, are kind of random sometimes). I hadn’t considered using a script to tackle my pile of reviews from the lowest levels first!
But regardless, starting from zero again feels a little nice. I’m getting some nostalgia from the first few weeks I discovered wanikani, which coincide with the first few weeks I decided to learn Japanese and was amazed at everything! Although the only thing I regret is my first stats on wkstats and the likes are deleted. I’m fortunate enough to have continued studying Japanese to some extent during my break, therefore I expect to level up back to level 10 or so fairly easily and be back on level 14 in a little over 3 months.
Overall, nice work catching it all up! We’re both using different methods to reach the 60 goal!
I’m honestly not sure if this is possible on the website. I almost exclusively use the tsurukame iOS app because it’s so darn convenient, and there you are able to configure review order. Sorry for the probably not-that-helpful answer
I did this in July/August last year. I started WaniKani in September 2022 and had a crazy busy summer holiday with family and busy term as a teacher, and took a break from about April-June 2023 on level 18. I had it on vacation mode so there were only about 400 reviews but I found the amount of incorrect answers and how often they all kept coming up the biggest challenge!
It took a consistent effort in June/July/August to really get over the huge challenge before I was ready to tackle new levels lol. It can be done! I’m now level 26 and going strong burning many kanji
Kudos to you! I sincerely hope you can keep your dedication for the rest of your levels!
I was once in a similar situation but gave in pretty quickly and reset my levels. It would have been definitely better not to reset.
