How do we use the audio files with Genki?

Hi,

I know Genki is quite popular here as well so I gave it a try but…how the hell does one use those audio files? I am actually confused…

Since I already have some basics I wanted to just read the textbook then jump to the workbook and try to find the answers along with the audio files.

So the first part is the greetings(see image below), I play the first audio file but I don’t get what I expected.

I thought the workbook was there to review the lessons you had in the textbook and you have the answers in the audio files, for example for the two first ones you might have something like:

  1. おはよう
  2. すみません

I didn’t find the answer that I wanted online and I feel like I missed something. I hope you can help me with this.

EDIT: Ah…I got my answer thanks to the comments below, thanks guys!

This is from a different page of the book, but these are what you’re looking for for the listening.
number
Those symbols indicate there’s an audio file for it, and the number next to it is the file name.

Not every page has an audio file.

Edit: The audio files are dialogues and listening exercises (and I think vocab), not the answers. The actual answers are in a separate answer key book.

I found a site with the audio files and listened to the first one. Seems to make sense to me. You have people saying various greetings, and the page tells you to write the appropriate ones in hiragana with the associated pictures. Basically match them and write the word you’re hearing.

The first audio file for the workbook (W01-A) goes with Pg 17 in the 2nd ed workbook.
pg17

Well, it doesn’t appear that he has the physical book… but just looking at the page, it seems to make sense with what he’s showing there.

But maybe there’s another similar exercise as well.

I don’t have Genki myself, just basing it on what I can see in the OP

Not every exercise in the workbook has a corresponding audiofile, not all of them are listening exercises.
There is no “Listen to…” or anything of the like in the task description and no referece to an audiofile (as Evueimeimei pointed out), so it’s not a listening exercise.

Admittedly, the “Play” symbol before the exercise might be a bit misleading when you’re new to Genki.
Good thing that I ignored the audio until I got to the actual listening comprehension exercises, I could see myself in OP’s situation.

Ah ok, now everything makes sense! So the audio files are only for some listening comprehensions parts in the textbook/workbook. There is actually a dedicated file/book for the answers.

I was overwhelmed with all the content that I had, I should have looked into it a little bit more. Thanks everyone!

PS : I added a picture to the main post!

@Kazzeon Why do you want my topic to be deleted so badly? xD

Me? What? xD

Ah, I get it now. You deleted two of your comments that had “comment withdrawn by author” or something like that, I thought you were spamming me lol.
