Review forecast seems like a very nice feature, but I agree that the buttons kind of lost their functionality. In the current version, I can see right away number od lessons and reviews (using mobile mostly). In the new version images are stealing all the focus and numbers are just too small. Visually it looks nice, but funcionality should be the top priority.
Don’t really have anything constructive to add, just that I love the lessons and reviews buttons, they’re so cute!
I love the lessons and review buttons too!! My first thought when I saw the preview was how cute they are! ![]()
The images are cute, yes, but the numbers are a bit harder to read now. Maybe you can make them bigger, a different color, or move them somewhere else inside the button. I like the new forecast thing it is better than what we had before but I also think that having a big “next review in” countdown is pretty useful.
This, I like the buttons very much, they are perfect! The cute drawings also motivate me to do my reviews for today as I have way too many durtles…
I feel that a lot of criticism in this thread is coming from people who have many scripts installed to make the dashboard look exactly like they want it, making it contain more information. (I also have the Ultimate Timeline script installed for that reason.) However I think it is great that WK is working on a better out-of-the-box experience, without scripts, and I don’t see why anyone would be against that. I would assume that script makers can just hide the new buttons, so everyone is happy.
Can’t say I like the update. A bit disappointed that the preview feedback about button size wasn’t taken into account.
I understand the lessons and reviews are THE point of the app but there is a limit to how large a button should ever get in any UI…
The forcast… meh. I’ll be sticking with the ultimate timeline.
What do you mean by this? They posted this thread a few hours ago and are asking for feedback about a change that won’t be made official for a few days. Were you expecting them to change it in that timespan?
Wow really love it.
Review forecast is
- it’s really nice to able up to upcoming review data now!! Simple but sweet
Though I can understand where other people are coming from, I like the new buttons and the timeline.
It’s a change, but I’ll love seeing all the new buttons/drawings.
There was a thread before this, a few weeks ago, revealing a first version on the preview server, and people provided lots of feedback. The previous version was influenced by that feedback (but the feedback on the button size was not taken into account as much). I think the OP also mentions this and details the team‘s reasoning.
I think it’s a pretty good update.
It gives more information if we don’t or can’t use scripts to enhance the experience of WK
looks great, as someone who doesnt really use alot of add-ons and extensions, I’m overall happy with it ![]()
I do kinda wish a little bit of those wanikani stats (wkstats - the one that you put in you api)
were implemented in some form, but it’s okay, I like the direction that things are going! ![]()
Well, in that case, I guess they have a different viewpoint on it, but they still have time to do something else potentially.
I love the big illustrated buttons, but I don’t understand why we need so much nitpicky info on the main page. I never use review forecasts or anything like that.
I don’t have anything new to add but I’ll still say it so that you have an idea of how many people think that way:
All in all, thanks for what you do. I don’t think this update is really that useful as it is now but if it ultimately leads to a dashboard on which the Ultimate Timeline is no longer really needed, I can understand why you’re doing this. I guess a lot of people try WK and stop after the first three levels because the UI doesn’t give them the information they need and they never found out about scripts that would really make their experience with WK a LOT better. I only found out about scripts after a few months of using WK and frankly, it completely changed my appreciation of this site. I don’t think I would have gone on using it if not for userscripts. Maybe try insisting to new users that a lot of really useful userscripts can be found on the boards. Many people don’t care at all about message boards.
But the point I really wanted to make here is this: the scripts that made me stay are mostly the ones allowing me to reorder my reviews and to correct my typos. The level of frustration that I felt doing my reviews before using these scripts was so high that I was on the verge of stopping WK when I found out about userscripts. I would be really interested in finding out why you prioritize UI updates over reviews updates. Do you really have that much feedback inciting you to do so?
I relied on the ‘Next day’ review amount a lot to keep my workload manageable, which apparently has been removed. I am a bit confused how to get the same amount of info from the timeline (to keep my next day at about 200). That is going to be annoying to adjust to.
A bug with the forecast for me it doesn’t seem to take into acount my timezone either.
Compared to the initial preview, this definitely feels like an improvement - the weird white space has been balanced by moving the forecast, and the buttons make it very obvious what you need to do (plus the illustrations are cute).
I still simply dislike the format of the forecast though. I’m not demanding the recreation of Ultimate Timeline by any means, but I really think most people would find something closer to a graph more useful - by which I mean the forecast should show every hour regardless of whether it has reviews or not. It makes it much easier to scan a day to see when the reviews will be coming up, rather than forcing the user to inspect the specific times.
I don’t particularly like the running total either - so many numbers! Just show me the predicted total for the day.
I’d also still advocate making the forecast horizontal and spacing everything out a bit more. There’s a lot going on up the top now, and as a new user I was very attracted by the clean simplicity of the original dashboard.
Cut out the ‘new unlocks’ and ‘recently burned’ columns if more space is needed (I also don’t care about the critical items because I don’t think it’s ever shown me anything, but from the last thread some people clearly do).
(@morteasd - the new forecast shows you the total predicted for the next day? it’s not “next 24 hours”, but I’d have thought a daily prediction would almost be more useful?)
Only if you are at 0 reviews at the time of looking at it and have no more reviews for today - otherwise you get the sum of today and tomorrow.
BTW I was always confused by the „next day“ indicator because it did NOT show the next day but the next 24 hours
so I actually like the new indicator better because I think it’s clearer on what it indicates.
