I’m really enjoying it so far! I really like the art style, both the 2D sprites and the 3D characters and environments, and there’s a LOT of voice acting, which is a fun change from Danganronpa which mostly just voiced the trials and a few cut scenes.
It’s definitely not Danganronpa and there are some things I wish they handled differently (like the game’s version of free-time events is framed really awkwardly and I sometimes wish we had more group interaction scenes with the characters), but so far the actual plot and cases have been compelling. And overall the I’ve enjoyed the gameplay - for both the investigation and ‘mystery solving’ parts. There are some pretty short sidequests you can do that do a good job at fleshing out the world, too.
I just started chapter 4 out of 5 and so far I can definitely recommend it if those sorts of games appeal to you. I also get pretty major Somnium Files and Persona vibes at times.
Also thanks @Kassina , I do think I’m gonna give that game a shot. Was just between going straight for it and instead playing Pikmin 4 and I went for that instead. It still gives me a little to read in Japanese at least, haha.
For those of us who’ve never done these before, how does it work? How do we know where to read until? Do we say “everyone make these choices and we’ll end this week at the end of x route.”?
We pretty much have to improvise for each VN, heh. Some had chapters or other easy delineators like 999, so we read by number of flow chart sections. Very easy and clear for people, though it led to some unbalanced weeks. Other times like 9-Nine (people sure like 9s in titles), in the absence of that, we went purely by character count in a text hooker and the person leading it helped make it clear with screenshots and the like where the official stopping point per week was. Fatal Twelve is going to have to work that way.
We haven’t dealt with too many choice and route heavy VNs honestly, since we kept things simple in the earliest picks and some things we picked were just structured more simply, but where relevant we’ve had some sort of official agreed upon route usually. You’re not gonna be forced to that obviously, but yeah, there’ll be recommended choices where relevant probably to keep everyone together for the real time discussion.
I want to say Bustafellows actually broke off into threads per route so I’m not sure if they did things the same exact way when they got into it, but I wasn’t part of that club because we had an interesting situation where it tied (or nearly tied?) with 9-Nine and the people voting for the two were almost entirely exclusive groups so we just split into two clubs briefly.
I’ll post a screenshot of the stopping point each week, and include a list of choices that you should take each week if you want to follow along with the club exactly. This one does have multiple endings, so we will basically be going through each ending roughly following a guide that I’ve been using to help schedule things out.
The complete edition just includes all of the extra bits listed in the “Content for this game” (so artbooks, soundtrack, voice drama), but nothing extra in the actual plotline (that I’m aware of. Somebody can correct me if I’m wrong).
I totally misread that symbol as a $ at first, and was wondering what the heck was happening.
The voice drama is a sequel to the game I believe but everything else listed there has nothing to do with the plotline. I only bought the base game for now and will decide if I want to get the voice drama after personally.
@anon99047008 are we following a particular guide? I’m about to go off on vaca without the ability to play and was thinking about trying to get ahead (i say still in the middle of week 3).
