Does WaniKani ever reject correct answers or am I going crazy?

Now I’m not saying there is a bug, but I am 99% sure I typed “to take back” as the meaning of 取り戻す and it was marked as incorrect during my lessons. :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Experienced it twice, though the second one was a reading where I might have made a typo.

Neither?

The other day, I had wanikani repeatedly reject a specific answer. I was ready to file it as a bug, until I looked more closely and saw that the kanji was a different, but extremely similar looking character to the one I expected.

Oh yeah, I’ve had that too, but this one was in my lesson batch of 5 completely different items, so there was not much I could’ve confused it with.

I was sure that I entered the reading correctly - but WK showed that apparently I entered こうきょう instead of こうぎょう (which I truly thought I had entered, and had even correctly sounded it out in my head) - the ‘k’ key on the keyboard is pretty distinct from the ‘g’ key, but maybe it was somehow a typing error on my part.

Oh well…

Are you using a QWERTY (or other layout) physical keyboard on a computer and entering as romaji?

Depending on the context, you could actually be having a hardware or software input issue, completely unrelated to you or WaniKani making any mistakes. It’s definitely happened to me.

Yes - I’ve wondered about that, but sometimes when you’re running on ‘autopilot’ and something unexpected occurs, it’s hard to know for certain whether it was something that you did (by absent-mindedly pressing the wrong key) or something that the system did to you…

I’ve had this before, it gaslights you into thinking you made a mistake to the point I physically reeled forward in my chair at getting something wrong I knew I wasn’t, haven’t had this in a while but I just re-do the answer with the exact same thing and it accepts it. Happens very rarely.
