DEPRECATED TOPIC: English - Japanese vocabulary recall tool: KaniWani

I really love this

pgoonghang said... This looks great, and I've signed up. I've noticed int he past, that I can't recall words that I've learned through WK. I can read them if I see them, but not the other way around. I'm sure this is common, and is what KW is supposed to address.

I'm having a problem with the app though, using both Safari and Firefox. When I get an answer wrong and want to change it, I can backspace just fine, but I can't retype an answer. It seems my keyboard has been disabled somehow. Is anyone else having this issue?

Thanks for sharing フィンヅリーさん。

As far as I can tell, you can't change the answer when you get it wrong. You just have to skip and wait for it to come back up.

As for me, I wish it was a little clearer on transitive vs intransitive verbs. They have definitions that are nearly identical, so it would be nice for just a Transitive/Intransitive marker for the verbs.

Thanks for the response. And I also realized this doesn't matter, as when I get the wrong answer I shouldn't be able to correct it!

I've been using this a bit to supplement my WaniKani studies.

I needed this more than I thought, it’s awesome and I’ll keep using it alongside WaniKani! Thank you so much!

I have a problem with logging in on my PC. Always get server error 500. Any ideas?

Spooky. Send me your KW username either here or at tadgh@cs.toronto.edu and I'll check er out!
Very nice, and works great on my phone (despite the big text). However I can't use it form my work PC. I can log in fine, and it shows the number of reviews, but when I try and do the reviews I just get the following in the boxes:

1

Meaning

Placeholder!

Placeholder Kanji

It's likely some settings in my work's browser that is preventing kaniwani from working, but i don't know what!

My KW username is em.be.

This tool is wonderful, thank you for creating it! It was super intimidating when I first started using it, because I was missing or mixing up lots of words I thought I knew, but after using it for a week or so, I’m already feeling much more comfortable with recalling the kanji vocab I’ve learned.

I’m finally trying this out (I have 0 lessons and 0 reviews here now… and I won’t have new lessons for quite a while, so…) this is perfect! I love that you have the yellow for being REALLY close but slightly off in the readings’ pronunciations. (I kept messing up Seattle… thinking it was “te” instead of “to” and then trying different combinations of katakana and hirigana.)

I’m going to try to add level 1 and 2 to mine so I can review those vocabulary as well!

Thanks!

I imported the vocab in Memrise if anyone prefers to use that: http://www.memrise.com/course/861672/kaniwani/

I'd be interested in contributing when I have free time.

So this is the correct KaniWani thread!! Boy do I feel embarrassed now.

And you’ve written the ability to manually re-lock levels is coming soon(ish). Alright, that settles my question then. Though I hope it will come soon, I can’t use KW right now with over a thousand items open. :frowning:

I tried to login, but couldn’t, how do i sign up on it

nevermind

But what is an API?

After using this site for awhile, really it’s great!

many thanks for you Tadgh 11

Visit here https://www.wanikani.com/account and get the long set of characters from the public api key field.

Tadgh11 thank you very much for kaniwani, it is really useful and it is helping me a lot!
