DEPRECATED TOPIC: English - Japanese vocabulary recall tool: KaniWani

rade134 said... The app wouldn't let me update to level 6 even thought that's my current level. So I tried forcing it using your js scripts but that just made it so I was getting reviews with absolutely no readings defined.
There is a three-hour delay between you unlocking new vocab, and your account on kaniwani syncing it. If it still persists, please email me at tadgh@cs.toronto.edu and I will help you get it worked out.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, so I'm sorry if it was, but is there any word on if there's an option to lock the current level and only start with vocab from the first level and work my way up from there? It makes more sense to me if there's a way to start at Level 1 than Level 11.

But other than that, this is good stuff!
 I agree with this.

I think it would be good to be able to have a mode where you can explicitly lock and unlock any level you have achieved. I just had my KW account deleted so I could re-create it. Optimally I would keep everything locked and just unlock one at a time starting at level 1, but for now I am just going to try to keep up with my current level for now and not unlock any older ones.
 It's in the works.

thanks it works great !!
A suggestion : maybe we could enter full kanji text directly (if we select a japanese keyboard) Right now the answers are yellow’d out.

Awesome! I was just wondering how well I’d be able to come up with the word from memory when not reading the kanji (which is really what matters when you’re trying to speak or write, not read) - and there you made it. Thank YOU!

You’re amazing.

I originally intentionally ommitted this, as a lot of people would use auto-complete features while knowing only part of a word, however it is heavily requested, so im working on it.

Is the ignore answer feature still considered? Getting overwhelmed by increasing number of very similar words is slowly starting to get aggravating.

I’m going to implement a “No this is certainly an acceptable answer” button, which will add it to local synonyms and re-quiz you on it instead of marking it wrong.

I finally got around to giving this a go, and I like!

It’s obviously still quite basic, but so far, it’s a solid and cleanly-presented system that I think will complement WaniKani beautifully. I’m a little concerned about synonyms making it hard or impossible to figure out which word it wants, and some stats/better status tracking of items would be nice (e.g. seeing how many “Apprentice” and “Guru” items I have so I know when my general workload has dropped low enough to unlock a new level), but I see you’re already planning improvements in those general areas.

I’ve pinned the tab alongside my WK tab for regular use, and I don’t pin many tabs, so there’s that. Many thanks for this super handy tool! :)

Really great idea, just signed up!

Look great (I mean, not really, but… ;P), very useful addition. Thanks for sharing!

Well then, I just signed up and got all of 57% on my first review. Then I discovered that you can “Unlock” the older vocab, so now I have almost 200 reviews.

And here I was feeling good about myself today…

Edit: Wellp, did those 200 reviews spanning back to lesson 1 and I got 64%. So that’s… something.

I really want to get into using Kaniwani, but 1300+ reviews, most at the lowest SRS level possible is just too much of a time investment right now. It would be nice to be able to relock levels so you could focus on learning just one level at a time at your own convenience.

This is really great stuff, good job!

this is fantastic! - thanks!!

This is great!! Thank you!

Relocking is in the works. email me your username and the levels you would like re-locked, and I can do it for you myself on the backend.

Thanks for this. It on github?

signed up and i just have 2 reviews. unlocked the past levels and now have 130+  -_- great! hahaha

89% not a bad first try.

This looks great, and I’ve signed up. I’ve noticed int he past, that I can’t recall words that I’ve learned through WK. I can read them if I see them, but not the other way around. I’m sure this is common, and is what KW is supposed to address.

I’m having a problem with the app though, using both Safari and Firefox. When I get an answer wrong and want to change it, I can backspace just fine, but I can’t retype an answer. It seems my keyboard has been disabled somehow. Is anyone else having this issue?

Thanks for sharing フィンヅリーさん。
