So the ability to do this currently shouldn’t be the first post in the thread? Sure, go ahead and talk about what should exist, but let’s ignore what does exist in the meantime.
Personally I don’t care, and people know they can send emails to Tofugu about anything they want changed. But if someone really wants to be able to do this now, the fact that you can currently, in some form, was worth a mention, I thought.
Slower, yes, but how is it useless? You unlock 15 items when starting a level, say, radicals. Doing those lessons unlocks the next 15 for the following day, assuming the guru requirements are met. What really dictates how useful this would be is whether or not it’s 15 radicals, or say 8 radicals and 8 associated kanji.
And I don’t see how it wouldn’t prevent you from getting overwhelmed with regard to lessons. I agree that it’s not as ideal as I first thought though, considering this. But still, the fact that we’re having this conversation means something could/should be changed.
On a final note, I don’t personally find that motivating, so it’s possibly more of a personality associated factor than a universal improvement.
I’d say, it would make a good option in the settings menu. It fits in right along ‘lesson batches’ and ‘display old mnemonics’. You could have different settings, e.g. count until 42, 100, 250 or actual number. I agree with @felix330 that it is a quirky option, but I may be biased as I also loved that book.
I’m kind of indifferent about it, but I’d appreciate the option. I care much more about seeing an accurate number of upcoming reviews than I do lessons. Makes it one less click easier to know how long I’ll be.
Action speaks louder than words. They can promise whatever but the fact that the first complaint goes back to 2012 and it’s 7 years later means that they don’t have the intention to change this.
I mean, they did just release a huge system overhaul, i dont know if two numbers that already has its own script is really on the top of their priorities.
I won’t speak for anyone but myself, but I don’t think we’re against the idea of allowing it as an option you can toggle between, it’s just not a priority. While I’m sure you all get sick of hearing us wave our hands and say something vague like “We’re working on stuff, we just can’t talk about it,” as an excuse for why stuff doesn’t happen, we really are working on stuff, and we really can’t talk about it, but it does takes up a lot of our time. Hopefully, when said things are ready, you’ll agree that it was time well spent.
So I definitely wouldn’t put the 42+ on the “never gonna change” list, but I also wouldn’t expect it to happen right away.
Lol…here I thought the 42+ thing was a bug or something. Had no idea it was a joke. Personally, I don’t care what the numbers are. I do all the reviews no matter how many there are and I do as many lessons as my schedule allows no matter how many there are. The number shown has no bearing. The only number I hate seeing is 0, cause that means I’m out of lessons.
I’m comparatively new to WK—I’ve never seen this 42+ thing. May I assume that it’s gone by now?
But the more important question here is: Why did WK suggest this topic to me, 10 months after the last post? Is the WK trying to keep its threads alive? Does it feed on the life energy of its threads?
