This is my second day after paying the subscription.
I thought new lessons were released every day. I assume I am wrong.
Can anyone else clear this up for me please? I have done the same quiz on the same set of radicals quite a few times now but nothing else is opening up to me.
When you fill up the bar on a radical, you unlock related kanji. When you fill up the bar on kanji, you unlock related vocabulary. When you fill up the bar on enough kanji, you move to the next level.
IIRC it starts out slowly, as the app logic is setting up intervals for learning new items and reviewing already-learned items, such that in the beginning you may encounter times where there is “nothing to do” - but after you get through one or two levels it picks up the pace (depending also on how quickly you actually do the reviews or lessons that it unlocks for you).
After rereading your post, I think the “Today’s Lessons” text might be confusing you a bit:
Lessons become available as they’re unlocked, and there’s no set schedule for that; it just depends on when you finish the reviews for prerequisites and make it to the “Guru” stage of the spaced repetition system (that is, when you fill up the bars on the prerequisite radicals or kanji). The “Today’s Lessons” feature just introduces the new content in smaller batches to help prevent you from being overwhelmed with new material. You can click the “Advanced” button to see if there are any lessons you currently have unlocked. If you don’t have anything unlocked at the moment, you’ll just need to be patient and do your reviews until you unlock something new.
WaniKani can be a bit frustrating at first for some people because
and it may seem silly to wait multiple days before progressing. However, this becomes more important as you get further along because you will almost always have reviews to do from previous levels. You’d quickly get overwhelmed if you tried to rush through everything all at once, and the spaced repetition is designed to ensure you can remember the material before moving on.
Sorry i wasnt sure how to get back on to the forum.
I just wanted t9 say a big thank you to you all as i have read your messages and it made me persevere and sure enough im doing more lessons, and reviews etc.
