Caught up to the weeks reading yesterday. A rather smooth week in which actual stuff happens. Breath of fresh air after last week’s relative slog.
I was a little disoriented at the beginning of the chapter. I actually thought I might have skipped some pages. I found my footing after some pages again.
Reiko giving the silent treatment.
And Rika breaks up with Makoto. It’s not like we are surprised by that development at all. I was a little surprised by reading her inner thoughts of what she secretly wished he’d say. I didn’t think she had any interest in the relationship anymore.
Reiko is finally starting to open up at the end of the chapter again. They finally seem to be going to the cooking classes together. Honestly the whole “let’s live at 篠井sans house together” setup was kinda cute. Would have loved to be part of that dynamic as well. I’m not surprised as Rika that the fast food was much more popular than her own healthy homemade food in that situation though.
In week 9 we were discussing the slowness of the book and someone was saying that “Maybe in English it wouldn’t feel as bad” but I checked some English reviews of the translation and yeah, lots of people are saying that it’s slow. It doens’t help that on most websites it’s classified as mystery/thriller. It’s not, so if that’s what you expect, you’re gonna be disappointed.
But anyway, I also liked the improvised 合宿 (sort of thing), there’s some cute dynamics between all the characters.
Finished this week finally, I love the weird mom/sister dynamic that the two women are giving the lonely dude, but also just want them to come out to each other The whole ‘you’ll find someone some day’ chat…GIRL 告白 ALREADY
