Best way to order dates?

I want to say “on the eighth, I ate a cat.”

Pardon me, but I dont know how to say “I saved” or “I rescued” yet as my verb knowledge is know!

Would it be better to use 第~ or ~目?

第8日猫を食べました

vs.

8日目猫を食べました

Days in a month are naturally ordered from 1-30 (or 31, etc.) So isn’t using 第 OK, or even better?

8日(ようか)は猫を食べました
You could even omit the は.

#日 means Xth day of the month (as long as you use the proper pronunciation), so you don’t need to add anything else.

#日目 would be like the Xth day, like “the second day of school”.

第#日 would be like Day X, “day 1; week 2; lesson 5; etc.”

第8日

()(もの)がない。(わたし)(ねこ)だけだ。()(もの)必要(ひつよう)だ。(ねこ)()べた。

Day 8:
There is no food. Just me and a cat. I need food. I ate the cat.

Sorry you inspired me

Thought it was going to be a question about year-month-day or day-month-year. Or whatever.
