Ah yes, I remember those. The way I read them, she is simply dropping (implying) what she did inadvertently (i.e. forgetting about the race)

I was planning to bring it up retrospectively once Akira was actually introduced, but yeah, some of the earlier chapters become a little odd in their omissions after Akira shows up. Athena, too - the “Neverland” chapter in Masterpiece volume three has Alicia and Akira inviting Alice out for a day with Akari and Aika, even though she’s from a rival company (the corresponding anime episode came after Athena’s introduction, so they just mention that she would have liked to be there but was too busy to attend). Also, Akira’s introductory chapter has Aika mention the Three Water Fairies, but Athena is only represented as a faceless placeholder, even though there’s not a chance that Aika would not know the third member of the trio that includes her idol and her mentor.
But yeah. Early installment weirdness.
