Anyone knows about this new pop up message

I was using a public network and this poped up after I have finished my reviews XD its cute but I thought I was hacked for a second.

Does anybody know anything about it?

I got this message when I created a new account (for testing userscripts) and tried to go to other pages during the “tutorial”

It’s the message you usually get when you go to a page that doesn’t exist, or you don’t have access to. I’ve tried to quickly go to a kanji’s page by copy and pasting the character into the URL and accidentally placing it wrong a few times. That’d get me that message.

No idea what gave you that after finishing up your reviews though. Maybe the post-review redirect took a bad turn somehow?

It’s basically Wanikani’s version of a “something unexpected went wrong” message

I pushed out a change yesterday that consolidated the error message look and feel. We have used this new style shown for some time, but not in all places. Now the errors should look consistent across WaniKani.

just got it when I finished my reviews, no idea what might have gone wrong, all seemed normal


but good to know it isn’t anything strange. :sweat_smile:

Well, the message it self isn’t strange, but it’s odd that multiple people are getting it after a review session.

I also just got this same error message after finishing my reviews. I had the reviews open since this morning and received it after finishing them.

Actually, it’s both. :slight_smile:

Typically one would get this while visiting a kanji/vocabulary page from content you haven’t reached yet (for me, i.e., something from LEVEL 57).

But many of us got it randomly for no explainable reason, which is why staff is looking into it :slight_smile:

But I can easily access higher content than from my current level? :thinking: I only get this message if I try to visit content that doesn’t exist, like my link above.

I just got this quickly jumping between https://www.wanikani.com/dashboard and https://www.wanikani.com/subjects/review while debugging my CSS
Does it only mean “access denied” or does it also mean “you’re rate-limited”?
