I would love to add the Context sentences to my learning routine. When learning a new word, I won’t read all of the sentences, however I find reading them give interesting and crucial context to the word, and also give the vague illusion that I can already read some japanese
I would love to hear how do people include the context sentences to their study routine, and maybe hear about tools available to that aim.
If I had to create a tool, I guess the flow would be,
I learn a new word through the current wanikani process
When I get some free time, in a new section/page, I can see “Context Sentences”, “Pattern of use” and “Common Word Combinations” sentences of words I learned. Maybe it would show me one sentence taken randomly from all the words I learned.
I can press next to see the another sentence. The sentence I just saw would be marked as read and probably not show again.
You have almost that feature for the vocab if you create a jpbd deck with the WK vocab and use the example sentences features.
If you really like a WK context sentence and dislike the random example sentences you can set your prefered one as the example.
If you prefer staying within the WK ecosystem there exist at least one context sentences userscript if i’m not mistaken. I do not know if it is still functional though.
It is currently broken and I haven’t taken the time to figure out why cause I took break, then reset from level 24 to level 1 and don’t need them yet. I’ll probably try to figure out what the cause of the bitrot is in a few more levels if nobody else volunteers the work before then.
It can be pretty heavy on some very common words, though, and because of verb conjugations and whatnot it’s not always 100% accurate. I ended up turning it off recently and while I might go back to it, it seemed like sometimes it was delaying the page loads enough to be noticeable. But it’s definitely something that could work if that is what you’re looking for.
