That’s so interesting! I read a lot of Manga when I was a teenager, but now that I started learning Japanese I couldn’t really get into anything too much (and I have no good explanation why), so thanks to Harta (and Comic Beam) it is the first time I am consistently reading Manga again! So I don’t really have much experience currently with reading in a magazine vs volumes since I already skew heavily towards magazines. (And, to be fair, back in the 2000s a German Shoujo manga magazine was also how I discovered Manga in the first place, lol) For me it really is only 昴とスーさん where I feel like it was a better experience reading outside the magazine, although there was a bigger shift in the story (as you also mentioned/noticed, Mitrac!) which also could’ve been the culprit.
Yeah, I even thought about this, if I maybe should buy a magazine every few months and then just stock up the volumes of the Manga that I enjoyed. Because there’s already a lot I skip in Harta/Comic Beam anyway, so I thought it might be more economic to just buy one every few months to look for new stuff… But then you would miss out on the cool one-shots and they are some of the best part
I do this because I think he would enjoy the stories and not to practice translation or anything, so it isn’t super serious. I just send him the pages in a messenger and after each page quickly write down what is going on there. But often he is there in person anyway and I translate on the fly
As you can see here as an example, I wasn't very thorough with my translation there
That is so fun, I love how casual it is. Your translations crack me up but that’s amazing, gives me some fun ideas for sharing with my husband since he’s right there, too, and I hadn’t thought of sharing like that
This year’s Eurovision song contest (this weekend) entry from Ireland is about Laika as in the Russian space dog featured in ライカの星. Ireland always has a total wild card entry and this one is no exception
(For non-Europeans, Eurovision is an annual song contest meant to promote unity and EU love, every country (plus bizarrely Australia !) Sends an entry and then you vote during the show for a winner. Winner’s country hosts next time. It’s usually good fun and normally the music is terrible, but it grows on you…)
I also posted about Emmys Laika song in my post about Harta 75! Good to see someone else following Eurovision!
A fun fact I learnt in the meantime: Emmy, even though she is entering for Ireland, is actually Norwegian and there was another Norwegian entry about Laika in the past!
Norwegians seem to be very fascinated with Laika? I am starting to think the Manga author must be Norwegian as well!
Fun, love it! How did I miss your reference to Emmy in you Harta 75 post. I was probably just overwhelmed with excitement that you joined the Harta thread
Emmy’s opening riff actually sounds like it’s giving a nod to the Norway 2016 entry (which is amazing and sooo Eurovision I don’t remember that one)
