I’m nowhere near this vocabulary word, but I’d immediately try to associate it with Pokémon because that’s the first thing I think of when I see “repel.”
She reached the (Safari) Zone, but because she’d repelled the Pokémon, none of them cared

I just learned 退く today, along with Wanikani’s suggested “she re-zoned” mnemonic, and thought “that’s never going to stick…”.
