☀ 2026 Summer Solstice 24-hour Readathon

Whoops, I apparently completely missed when this board first was posted - thanks @soggyboy for hosting this time, and good luck with your move @taiyousea!

I have no idea what I’m going to read, or how much I’ll have time for, but I’m definitely going to participate! :tropical_drink: :books:

Iron clad logic

Jintor watches 2 set :eyes:

I have 1 week to choose my side …

I will continue reading Level 3 or N4 stories and articles. I also have a children’s story book and girl’s magazine that I’ll give a try. I find native materials more difficult, so it will take me a bit longer. This will be my third read-a-thon (I think) and it’s always fun to participate when everyone is so excited, so みなさん、がんばってください。

Oh god, I haven’t been working on my current manga series at all. :scream: Why are we already a week out?!

I found several story books l didn’t
remember even having, so those will
be my Readathon books. Moving does
have its advantages! Never know
what you’ll find!!

:sunflower::evergreen_tree::sunflower: :evergreen_tree: Kigi’s Goals :evergreen_tree::sunflower::evergreen_tree::sunflower:

:white_check_mark: Continue Hamtaro - (ended Spring readathon on p. 62)
:white_large_square: Read more than 3 hours 15 minutes

If this seasonal readathon continues I may finally have a reason to buy a second book .

Ok, life is looking a little better to hopefully allow me to participate! I have lots of Umineko to catch up on anyway. It’s fun in its own way that I’ve been doing it primarily in the readathons recently which gives me one giant piece of JP reading to keep comparing myself against a few months apart, heh.

The only catch is that I’ve got things going on on the weekend so I think I’m likely to have to take big liberties again and read on, like, Thursday or something. Gonna get started barricading the door from the readathon police tomorrow.

I’m going to guess I still haven’t been in the right headspace to expect to repeat my 100k character counts but who knows, don’t want to go into it limiting myself either.

Readathon time has arrived!! I’ve been looking forward to this ever since the last one. I’m due to return from holiday a couple days before, so how much I’m able to read this time around will depend on how I feel afterwards - but I’ll do my best!

I’ll be reading on Sunday the 21st. In terms of reading materials, I’ve got the ninth volume of 安達としまむら I’d like to start and see how much I’m able to read that day!

Goals

:yellow_heart: - Read ~100 pages of 安達としまむら

:yellow_heart: - Have fun and try to pace myself

Stretch goals (I don’t expect to reach these, but I want to try)

:light_blue_heart: - Finish a whole volume of 安達としまむら

:light_blue_heart: - Beat my record for either pages or hours read

Results

The whole of the ninth 安達としまむら volume read!

200 pages in 9 hours and 6 minutes

Haha so did I say the weekend is wide open for me? Turns out there is a gathering I will attend which means I will leave the house on Friday before noon and return Monday at some point :face_with_spiral_eyes:
So while I could technically participate on Sunday afternoon for a few hours, I would much rather enjoy my travels without being torn between two things, and thus I will probably join @Daisoujou on Thursday - we will be leading the pack

I’ll probably be starting Friday, but depending just where in the world your Thursday is happening we could possibly overlap.

I am looking forward to joining again! I will continue to read the Lightnovel I already read during the Winter Solstice Readerthon. I also added a Manga to have some light reading at hand.

Will be my first time participating, excited for it! I should note that I learned kanji outside of WK but eventually made the switch as the app I was using got worse and worse the further I got along, so my level is not quite accurate in terms of knowledge.

The discord server I’m in will be doing a 光が死んだ夏 book club so that’s what I’ll be reading! No real specific goal, just to get as far as possible! Still deciding what day I will read, but will commit as soon as weekend plans become clear.

Time Zone: JST

Today was eye stab day, so l’m ready for reading. I have “The Rat’s Bride” and
several other stories ready to be read
No snacks yet and pretty low
on cash, so l’ll decide on snacks
later.

Hello again everyone, happy two year anniversary of the readathon! I did not have the greatest showing in the last event, and I’m unsure how seriously I’ll be able to work on this one either, but I’ll be starting late sunday and going into monday.

My plan this time is to pick up the seasonally relevant next game in the flowers series and read as much of this as I can, using agent to texthook and character track.

When I read Flowers- Le volume sur printemps last year, I was averaging about 11k/hr, and really struggled to read more than about 15k in a day. This writing is tough! お嬢様 christian prep school with lots of references to literature and popular media and beating around the bush with intended meanings. My previous readathon VN goals were to read a full game in a day, and then to read 100k characters in a day, but I don’t think either of those are doable here with this, so I’ll just be reading this until my brain decides it’s done, and then maybe fill in the rest with some manga or LN things based on how I’m feeling.

So no hard goals, just excited to see how reading this series now feels compared to last december!

Past Readathon Stats

 KELSY’S GOAL POST

I’ll be reading whatever I feel like of Tsubasa Chronicles. I was able to pick up the whole series in a bookoff for like $15. I don’t have any real goals for this readathon besides to read and relax. I do have a bag of cheeze-its that have been squashed into my backpack for the last week and a half. Hopefully they aren’t too smashed.

I’m channeling this dude I saw in Osaka for this challenge. Bro was going for it.

Hello! This will be my first readathon! I’m very new to reading in Japanese and in fact I’ve probably been making too many excuses to not get started with it. So having a whole day deliberately put aside to focus only on reading is sounding absolutely perfect for me right now and I’m looking forward to joining in with everyone!

My goal is mainly to break my mental barriers surrounding Japanese reading so even 10mins would be a win for me, but I promise I’ll add more than that to the group numbers! My plan is to slowly work my way through some ふらいんぐうぃっち / Flying Witch on Saturday
(I’ll try not to be too distracted by all the cricket :cricket_game:)

:cookie: Now to think about snacks…

Results: I managed to read 61 pages of Flying Witch (two chapters) and it took 4hrs 38mins. I’m pretty chuffed with that

I will join!

For now I think my goal will just to be to look through the 幼馴染百合 tag on kakuyomu, find something that’s about 100k characters long, and read it (in other words my goal is to read at least 100k characters of a web novel). I think I’ll choose Friday afternoon to Saturday afternoon as my 24 hours, but I haven’t decided fully yet.

I have Fritos and bacon for
snacks while I’m reading. I need
some chocolate cake, but l
probably won’t have any.

I like competing, but only
against myself.

Hello!

This will be my first time reading long-form material in Japanese. So my goal is more to read as much as I can. I have like a soft minimum of twenty pages/1 hour but we’ll see how it goes. ちいさな森のオオカミちゃん, which is what I’m reading, at least has very cute illustrations.

So excited to see new friends joining us, welcome everyone!!
