This isnât a solution for physical kindle users, but if youâre using the app, make sure you get the kindle app for Japan. If you use the American region Kindle app, then you canât log in with your Japanese account iirc. You also need to buy kindle books in a browser, for some reason it wonât let you buy them in the Amazon app even if your account is set up right.
Thatâs the one I got! Itâs very nice. Iâm reading ăłăłăăäșșé on it now, and love that it keeps track of all of the words I look up (which is a lot). Coming from an iPad, though, it was initially pretty unnerving that the screen is so slow and unresponsive to touch, but I bought a mutli-tip stylus with a clear disc tip and that makes it much, much better.
Hmmm, actually I was able to log in into the Japanese account with the European/Polish region app. It was on Android. I downloaded it from the official Google Play store and didnât use any VPN.
Edit: Unless youâre talking about PC app - I donât remember where I downloaded it, it might have been Japanese site.
@tnetennba3 Thanks for letting me know! I wanted a Paperwhite because Oasis seemed too big (and was more expensive), but sometimes I really long for Oasisâ warm light.
I hope everything will go smoothly now! Iâm also waiting for Thursdayâs update.
One more edit: Built-in Kindle dictionary sorta sucks with conjugations, I recommend this one (it wonât work with PC app for some reason, but works on Android and with physical Kindles):
EDIT: I just noticed now it doesnât work properly on Android, too. I could sworn it did, but now I canât tell if I remember it wrong or some update broke it. I still prefer using it for physical Kindle.
Maybe itâs an iPhone difference? I do recall having some major trouble changing the region though. Itâs quite possible Iâm just not using all the right terms too.
I havenât had this problem.
As long as I am signed into the Kindle app with my jp amazon account as opposed to my US account, there hasnât been any issues with syncing.
I must be misremembering then.
A bit OT question: Does anybody have a decent guide, or at least know if itâs possible⊠Can I set up a Kindle Paperwhite to have both Japanese and English titles on the same device while being logged into my U.S. Kindle account???
I donât use Amazon, neither U.S. or Japan, to get my e-books and upload everything to my Kindle via Calibre application. Iâm thinking it shouldnât matter
If not possible, Iâm holding out for a little while longer while my Japanese reading skills improve and I keep hearing rumors that a new updated Kindle Oasis is due out in the next 1-3 monthsâŠ
Or it was different before. ![]()
Unfortunately, it is impossible without Calibre or other application for removing DRM. You can only be logged into one account at once and consequently, only access the books from one account at once.
Sorry I forgot to update you all! Got a reminder because this thread was linked from another. I have added an update to the original post in case itâs useful to others who have the same issue.
I have an Amazon Kindle Fire tablet and I feel your pain. I have had a very similar experience. I wanted to buy some One piece in Japanese to read on my tablet. There was absolutely no way to do it. I spent more than an hour trying different things and got nowhere. This is a bit ridiculous when you know that you can find an illegal version for free in less than a minute.
i found my old kindle (4th gen, i thought i had given it away) today, and was very happy that iâd be able to read my manga on the kindle instead of the laptop or phone.
but like you iâve been unable to get it to register with my amazon.co.jp account. glad i found this post though, after being frustrated for way too longâŠ
might have to spring for a new kindle eventually sighs
Yeah itâs super annoying that it doesnât just work. But Iâm glad you were saved from further frustration and investigation!
I was in similar situation like a month ago! Dig out my old kindle and to my biggest frustration couldnât add the japanese account. As Iâm planning to make similar decision (buy a new kindle) I have a quick question - does it matter from which country store you order it? Iâm in Europe, but a bit worried if it actually accepts japan account on it, if the device itself is not from Japan. Logically thinking I know that it should support whichever store account, but Iâd rather double check it ![]()
As far as I know, it doesnât matter. I bought my Kindle in European store myself (not Amazon, just an electronics shop).
I did hear, however, than when you buy Kindle directly from Amazon it may come with an account already attached to it and then you have to deregister it first and then register the one you want to use.
I just tried purchasing some japanese manga through an amazon jp account for the kindle reading app, but it did not work.
should I use a vpn to access it?
Iâm confused and buying the manga in print will be super expensive, since yesasia doesnât ship Manga to europe anymore and all the others have extrem shipping costs.
hope it was okay to write in this thread.
VPN for the first purchase + physical Japanese address (Amazon wonât check if itâs valid) + change region (for ebook purchases) to Japan.
If youâre going to only use an app and not an e-ink Kindle you may also consider Bookwalker which doesnât require these extra steps.
That sounds like an idea.
Thank you
Worked like a charm ![]()
Now i just have to pace myself to not spend all my money ![]()
I donât mind paying, also having multiple accounts / emails is OK.
I can search Kindle store language easily, but Amazon will always detect that my account is not in Japan.
On my Android tablet, I set my display language to Japanese, and sign in to my supposed JP account. At first glance, Kindle app asked me for a Japanese mobile phone number, but I donât have one. (Pressed ćŸă§.) After that, when I tried to purchase a book, download button doesnât appear. I can still add to waiting list. Then, when I go to the waiting list, there is a download button, but after that, it tells clearly that my account isnât inside Japan.
Yes, I want to avoid paper by all means as well.
Do you have a Japanese address set?
I still have my Amazon.co.jp address set to a hotel I stayed in once, so it can be any address.
I can then use the kindle app installed on my laptop/tablet/phone to download and read the books.
