thoughts/comments
This is gonna sound really pretentious, but I’ve kinda avoided watching a lot of anime without en subs in japanese. When I got back into anime as an adult it was a really conscious decision to try to approach it with a bunch of the tools I picked up doing philosophy of literature/lit criticism stuff, and treat it as like a comparative studies thing, and use it as a lens to look at cross cultural communication of ideas and literary traditions. Specifically, I was really interested in how the european romantic movement had been picked up and kinda revived in anime. But because of that, when I’ve watched anime as an adult, I’m treating it with that really fine-tooth comb that I just don’t have the language skills to be able to do comfortably in japanese. I mean, I had to go to school and do a whole bunch of really focused study to do that in my first language. It sounds crazy, but I am actually sitting there with a notepad and pen out sometimes when watching shows in english, so I’m definitely not picking up on all the nuance and symbolism and specific art choices in a second language (yet) 
But! That is something I want to try to be able to do more, and in order to do that I just have to really get used to lowering my bar for understanding and be ok with “just” enjoying watching things. So I popped in my first toradora DVD and just let it autoplay through those episodes to see how it’d go. I still stand by this show/series being way harder than you’d think on the tin, but it was enjoyable and that’s really what matters currently! Can’t remember when the last time I tried watching these without subs was, but it’s been at least a year.

thoughts/comments
みるはる is another one of my favorite streamers to watch, but haven’t been keeping up as much with her recently. Yoshi’s island is a great time, but it doesn’t have all that much in the way of commentary for my purposes here, so I might leave her for before bed time.
The speedrun was originally supposed to be a before bed watch, but then I started having a crazy allergic reaction to something and needed to sit up for a while as I waited for my medicine to kick in. I’ve actually watched this run before, いわび is a really good commentator, so even though he’s not actually running the game he does a good job of explaining all the stuff that’s going on. He’s done some of his own runs at other events, and is the current wr holder. This run has changed a lot over the past 10 years, so it’s always cool to see older versions of the route, like this was pre-tingle tuner tech.
Tried my first audiobook today! I signed up for a free trial on audiobook.jp just to see how this would go, saw a few covers I recognized and this one seemed by far the easiest of those. I’m still not entirely confident in my comprehension here compared to reading, but I can stick with it for a while to see how it goes. It may just be a thing where I need to spend more time reading narrative/descriptive text in novels before I can get comfy listening to that kind of writing, but I’m willing to give my ears a fair chance to settle in on their own.
News talk is just gonna take some getting used to, but it’s not entirely white noise, at least Today’s bigger stories were about the Hokkaido 8th district election and the abnormally high yearly snowfall. All-Nippon News Network (ANN) is the TV branch of the 朝日新聞, which I’ve been subbed to and read before.
But that’s 3 out of the 4 things I wanted to try this month already! Speedup 
Audiobook News
All that’s left on my list to try is some lectures, and I have some NINJAL stuff lined up for that, and then we just do an obscene amount of listening and see how much more comfortable those get! 
Mio POV for terraria day 3, and it’s mostly solo play today. When she is just chilling by herself and exploring and not constantly in conversations with other generally fast talkers (fubuki, marine, peko) it is a lot easier to speed up But even 1.2x for pekora when she starts rattling off stuff is really testing my ability to keep up

Finished Level 2 Lesson 20 of Pimsleur. This is a special milestone, because this is the 50th lesson overall. Only 100 more to go. The lessons are getting harder now, but slowly and steadily we move forward.
