You can have a look on learnnatively and search for anime by difficulty level. Anything from about level 16-23 that’s relatively slice-of-life should be more approachable in terms of vocabulary compared to more complicated stuff https://learnnatively.com/search/jpn/videos/?min=13&max=19&leveltag=n4
This was the first anime I found relatively comprehensible when I was getting into listening
First things first, thank you @Lisaveeta for reminding me of this thread.
I’ll be joining this daily listening challenge for the first time by doing my first listening challenge ever since I began studying Japanese. I’m not a complete stranger to Japanese only content but I haven’t put much time into targeted listening practice so far and I wished to finally change that.
Goal
My challenge will last from April 1 to April 30 and my goal will be to listen to at least 70 hours of Japanese content with or without Japanese subtitles.
Depending on how this challenge turns out, I might continue listening to Japanese content daily throughout May too but I’ll make that decision around the end of April.
Resources
My list of resources will be updated throughout the month because I purposefully didn’t listen to anything of interest beforehand to be able to compare my starting and ending point better after I finish this challenge. I’ll keep trying out things and see what will stick.
Edit mid-April:
These are the resources I ended up using regularly:
First time joining. I’ll be joining the reading challenge as well as I got back from Japan a couple of weeks ago with some books and although I already got (barely) N1 10 years ago, my Japanese level is still far from my next best foreign language (English). I did study in English for a few years and lived in English speaking countries for more than 10 years so there’s that.
The only objective now is to watch/listen to something for more than 20 minutes. I am doing a lot of running and soon going to go back to the gym so I’ll listen to podcasts then. I want to watch more drama and anime but ideally I want to have Japanese subtitles, so for the moment I’ll exhaust what I have available on Netflix since I can get JP subtitles easily.
I think I’ll get through the first week just getting into the habit of listening + maintaining this log + looking for additional resources and inspiration from other challengers and past challenges
I have the idea of adding 5 new words/phrases a day to an Anki deck, but I will see that when I get through the first week.
Listened to a podcast for one hour while running. I can grasp the general idea of what is being talked about but I trip on some unknown words or expressions somtimes. The stock/FX section is a bit hard and I’ve noticed that the previous times I’ve listened to the podcast. I think that’s partly because of the large numbers being thrown around, the specific vocabulary and the speed at which the analyst is giving his analysis.
I listened to Teppei and Noriko on my walk to the cafe this morning, then on my walk this evening And at the library today, I chatted with a fellow student and native speaker for an hour which was very fun!
About 42 mins of listening | Total so far: 42 mins
Write/Speak Challenge Decision
Side note, I made a post back on the previous Winter Challenge thread asking if people wanted to revive the Speak/Write Every Day Challenge into a proper seasonal one again, but I’ve decided not to. It was a last minute post and there’s a currently existing Speak Every Day Challenge for 2026 with low interaction, so I’d rather people contribute to that thread (I’ve been posting there for a month or so!)
Oh cool! I didn’t know that Running Channel Podcast. I started listening to the latest episode and I heard 6メジャーズ and that caught my attention as someone who ran his first majors in Tokyo recently How did you find it, why are you listening to it and what do you get out of it?
