Speak Every Day Challenge - 2026

Inspired by Read Every Day challenge here and Listen Every Day Challenge here, plus some of speaking practice threads, I was looking for already existing similar ones for Speaking. I couldn’t find one, thus I created new one here.

I understand that for some, especially for those living, working, studying in Japan or working in a Japanese company, Speaking Japanese every day is just normal day, but for many, including myself, it takes a special effort to start speaking Japanese. Some of us may even already passed N4-N3 or higher, but we still need some encouragement to start talking and speaking in Japanese.

I watched this youtube video discussing how to speak fluent Japanese and it mentioned that we just need to start with something and the speaking part of Japanese learning need to be at least 50% of the portion. Do not worry about the grammar, or word order, or word usages, etc. Other than pronunciation and intonation, our mind will be more active in learning Japanese and this will help more. Maybe the last part is my opinion, and not summarized from the video, but you get the ideas.

Target: every day.

How long: from 5 minutes long to much longer.

How often: from once or twice a day to more frequent.

Other details (not exhaustive list and not forced for everyone):

  • Solo or with partners or with teachers, with group, or with AI partner.
  • Shadowing, just talk or speak out loud, scenario-based, anything.
  • Any topics and any sources like book, manga, drama, movies, news, any articles, etc.
  • Just participate and post something here to motivate each other.
  • When you think it can benefit others, please post your source like video link, book titles, movie or drama titles, website link, etc.

Just sharing from my learning methods which are still done until now. I use shadowing from books or videos. I also have an online teacher whom I meet 2-3 times a week on 1 hour lesson, which includes speaking at least 30 minutes of it. I take a small portion of the sentences from the book or manga that I read out loud (at home) then I try to modify them to my own daily scenarios. And many more. I’m quite easy to get bored thus I tend to use many methods and sources.

Note: I don’t know how to create a voting entry on my post, thus I included none. Also I don’t how we can track or if we should track, but I guess simple post saying that we’ve clocked in for the day, should be sufficient.

皆さん、頑張りましょう。

Great idea and I’m already trying to do this so I’m on board.

I’d really appreciate people’s ideas for speaking when you don’t have someone to necessarily practice with. I’m an environmentalist so I don’t feel comfortable using AI tools so I’ve been using VR chat, keeping a spoken diary and doing lots of shadowing with YouTube videos and anime.

I have weekly lesson, so that’s in addition to that.

So if anyone’s looking for a great for a first step to speak for five minutes, I’d really recommend a spoken diary where you speak to yourself. Ask questions have prompts for the day that sort of thing.

This is so helpful. Thanks! I go to a language school twice a week, and it would still be nice to have an online speaking practice. If anyone is interested, please let me know.

For example, today below is mine. Not trying to too much, small portion daily, but consistently, is better than bug chunk once a week. Similar to our WK reviews.

Yes, spoken diary is good. I remember I used to talk to myself about things when I was learning English as my 2nd language more than 35 years ago. I should do the same for Japanese.

Hm. I wonder if some of us already opened Discord server/channel for WK forum members. Might be able to practice speaking via discord there.

Would be great. For me it would be nice to find people in the same time zone so we can make the most of practice time.

People practice speaking on the Renshuu Discord near daily! There are also official speaking events as well. There’s even one going on right now lol

Thank you. I’ll join that or maybe I already joined, but very inactive.

Ah yes, I was in since like 1-2 years ago. I can see the active event. Will encourage myself to join sometime in the future.

Great idea! I’d join but I just can’t fit anything more into my Japanese study schedule, but if you’re still running this in 2027, I’ll join then as that is when I’m planing to focus on output more. Good luck with everything!

Good job. I saw some events or invitation in a few discord servers/groups, but was too busy to participate. I’ll see if I can participate in any this week.
