No walks today, so no podcasts. I joked about “RIP my fence” yesterday from Sunday’s storm, but put it back up yesterday. Turns out it was a waste, as today’s storm blew it over again, and even blew a section into the neighbour’s neighbour’s garden.
Watched the final 3 episodes of season 1 of cardcaptor sakura today for listening practice. Since most of the listening practice I’ve been doing have been long running podcasts with no real completion point, this is technically the first thing in the audio category I manage to mark complete.
In the process, I discovered yet another word for dinner from Touya - 晩飯(ばんめし)。I’ll add that to the list with 夕飯、晩ごはん and 夕食、I guess.
I also noticed that Meilin definitely says にっぽん and not にほん。Is this a common thing, or is it just a way of making her Japanese sound weird since she’s supposed to be Chinese? Like I’m aware it used to be にっぽん, but I thought that was archaic nowadays (even given that CCS is nearing 30 years old - excuse me while I feel old for a bit)
One of the episodes have them in an ice rink where the freeze card is playing havoc. It shows a thermometer going down in the episode to show the effects. They start complaining around 15C. My thoughts were: “They’re really complaining about 15C? In an ice rink?”
I think last time I watched this was the dub, though I have seen both the English dubs and watched it with Japanese subs before. Anyway, one of the English dubs plays up the Yue/you puns a bit for ambiguity, but it seems the Japanese version didn’t. I guess they do get the moon puns though
Episode 34 had a around-the-town quiz and the two they actually showed were kanji puns, so it was nice recognising those.
Romaji shopfront spotted:
Anyway, I wrote my thoughts as I went along today, hence there’s much more of them than when I try to remember at the end.
