Tomorrow forecasts a major storm, yesterday was a major storm (RIP my garden fence), but today was merely somewhat windy and rainy, so made sure to get a walk in today. And as usual, walks mean Japanese podcasts these days. Today’s experiment was Nihongo con Teppei Z. I’d previously tried Nihongo con Teppei for Beginners and found it too basic as a next podcast from Shun.
So difficulty wise, episode 596 was too much, I think. It was the first I listened to, so maybe that was just a bit of getting used to Teppei’s style. Or maybe’s he’s done what I sort of thought Shun would do and steadily dialled up the difficulty. Or maybe the topic was just less suited for the vocab I know. Whatever the reason, I decided to try from the start and episodes 1-3 were more in the difficulty range I was looking for for something to listen to on walks.
So probably I’ll listen to some more during the week. but I’m not quite ready to call the search over. I don’t really like Teppei’s presentation style, I guess. The sudden shifts between mumbling and high pitch are a lot, the intro volume is jarring compared to his intro speaking style. Also the way he chooses to repeat things but faster doesn’t seem to help. Either I got it the first time and then the repetition feels pointless, or I didn’t get it and it’s not helped by the repeat being faster.
