Week 8 is here!
よつばと！・ Yotsuba&! - Week 9 - Japanese Language / Book Clubs - WaniKani CommunityHi there,
I’ve decided to get into reading, and was going to read Yotsuba&! by myself, but I remembered about this and decided to check it to see if it was anywhere near the start. Well, it isn’t exactly that new, but since you’re reading the book I wanted to read, I think I’ll just catch up and then go from there.
What is the general pattern for people in the club? I’ve done one ‘event’ on WaniKani before, which was the Spring Listening Challenge, and everyone had a ‘home post’ where we tracked our progress. I assume that doesn’t really exist here, but basically I’m wondering: how should I check myself in as ‘alive’ during the club?
For now, I’ll start with the first chapter and go from there.

Yeah, just go to the thread for each week’s reading. There you’ll also find help with vocubulary and grammar, translations, questions and answers from others about that week’s section, which should be helpful too.
I got carried away so much that today I will likely be done with volume 3. I can’t believe I am reading at such a pace in Japanese after only(?) a year and a half of studying. Also the manga is so good, loving the fun vibes it brings
I’m happy for you. At least it means “accidental” buying a bundle of 13 volumes instead of 5 doesn’t seem to have been a mistake

That’s really impressive! I started reading Yotsubato! in March 2025 and am only on Chapter 28. It’s a fun read so I really ought to pick up the pace.
I still remember my frustration at understanding those first few chapters after reading only textbook or news article Japanese. But, because of the struggle, I remember those early chapters (even the actual wording) much better than recent ones that I can read with more fluency.
