Hey, I’m finally caught up since starting late, so I might as well try doing a translation of my own. I will note that I won’t be using any translation tools other than dictionaries for this, so if I’d appreciate if someone could look it over and tell me anything I got wrong :slight_smile:

More specifically, the form is a registration for the neighbourhood’s 回覧板, which is essentially a newsletter for the neighbourhood that’s distributed by passing a single copy from house to house rather than doing a mass letterbox drop. He needs to fill out the registration in order to be added to the distribution chain.

“If we have any.” In this context, the あったら is “if it exists [in the freezer at home]”. (Though last we heard, Asagi had eaten it all. :face_with_tongue:)

Your translation’s not wrong here, per se, but the っけ on the end adds a sense that she’s trying to recall something - specifically, when Dad explained it to her about five or so pages ago. For a similar sense in English, you might word the translation as “What was that, again?”

Yanda’s a different, and so far unseen, character. “Yanda said he not coming because it’s too hot” - 来ねぇ is negative of 来る, and the って is the quotation particle. And then you skipped over やっぱダメだー “Like I thought, that’s guy’s useless”.

Thank you so much! For that last one, I thought it might have been some sort of casual grammar like 来なくてダメ, where it was a double negative and he wanted to go in.

Looking back, I’m not sure how I didn’t read this correctly.

I wonder how tall Jumbo actually is lol, he could be 6 feet+ but when I was on vacation in Japan, I did feel like I was on the taller side at 5’9".

You really get a feel for how the older characters talk to each other vs. how they talk to Yotsuba.

edit: there is apparently official info saying he’s 210 cm/ 6’10"!

So, since I’ve been doing it the last couple of weeks, i’ll have another go at writing out a full translation. I enjoyed doing it more than I expected to, so I’ll carry on.

I think your first translation was more on point. She’s musing aloud in front of Fuuka, about how great it was to give birth to a daughter like her, but her sister, Asagi, is a failure. Then she peevishly complains that she won’t forgive Asagi for eating her ice cream yesterday.

This week’s reading was hysterical- the frame where Yotsuba’s dad realizes he’s in his underwear… I was dying of laughter.

Looking forward to finishing chapter 4 next week!
