I ordered it yesterday
Awesome, added
Please add me. I ordered the book last week from my Kino and it should be in this week for pickup. Thank you!
I have the book already!
Ahhh! I went away on vacation and have been completely out of the loop. But I’m so happy we picked Kiki. I have the book, and I’m ready for Dec 10th! Added myself to the list. =)
So I think it’s safe to say everyone agrees with the proposed reading schedule, so I went ahead and made a table for the reading schedule in the original post (we can of course adjust as we go, let’s see how it works out!)
I also went ahead and created Chapter 1’s discussion thread, only 6 more days until we begin really looking forward to reading and discussing this book with you guys ^^
The Yotsuba vocab list was very helpful to keep up an easy reading pace. Has anyone seen a vocab list for Kiki?
I’ve looked and wasn’t able to find anything
Hi, can someone please add me to the member list?
I’d be happy to contribute to one, if we had someplace to put it. I’ve already scribbled lots of scribblings in the margins of Chapter 1 already. (The most important one, in my opinion: ほうき = broom.)
Perhaps the second post for each chapter should be a vocab list, that anybody with edit privileges can contribute to? Or maybe it should be a collapsible section of the first post?
I was thinking the same thing earlier! The second comment would be a great place, or a shared google doc. But how do we organize by page if everyone is using a different book?
I don’t think we can. But maybe it’s enough to have a vocab list per chapter — you could still study the whole list a bit before you sit down to read. I was going to say you could also search for an unknown word, but if you’re going to that much trouble, I guess you’d probably be better off using jisho.org or your favorite jisho app.
I do worry a little about how long this vocab list could get, though. I have about 25 vocab notes on page 1. But I may have gone a little overboard.
We could create a google doc, and anytime someone adds a vocab item, they include the following items:
- Kindle Page Number
- Red Book Page Number
- Blue Book Page Number
- Vocab word (Kanji)
- Hirigana translation
- English translation
And whatever book you’re using, you include your own page number and just leave the other options blank. That way at least there is some organization. And if someone finds that same word on their own book, they just have to add in a page number.
We can have a new sheet for each chapter. If it gets very long, at least it’s stored away from the group chat.
Is that too much? I’m open to better ideas…
Sounds reasonable to me. Just to be clear, you’re talking about a Google Sheets (spreadsheet, not word processing) document, right?
Yep, Google Sheets
Sounds great to me – we can include the link to the chapter’s spreadsheet in the original post of each chapter’s discussion thread to make it easily accessible to everyone to find and add to as we go
@MissMisc, why don’t you set it up? You seem to be in charge here.
I don’t mind setting it up. But how can you create a shared Google Sheet without everyone being able to see your personal info?
Haha, not really in charge, just excited for this book and don’t mind creating the threads ^^
@eainge I’ve actually never used Google Sheets before, so if you’d like to take charge on making that, that’d be awesome
