Hello! We’re currently running a “repeat club” of Kiki’s Delivery Service, using the original club’s discussion threads. I posted in the first thread to indicate the start of our discussion, and added the link and our new vocab sheet to that OP.
The threads are all wikis up to chapter 7. Would you mind making the OPs of the following threads into wikis too? MissMisc isn’t really around anymore for us to ask.
@ everyone else reading along - I’ve added our vocab sheet’s weekly link to the OP of the discussion thread, but would it be helpful to have it in the start post as well?
@Kyasurin I just wanted to say thank you for the chapter summaries in the original threads – I just finished the second chapter on the head start schedule, and it was quite a struggle for me! More so than the first chapter. Being able to confirm my plot understanding once I’d finally finished helped a lot thanks!
The vocab sheets (old and new) were also of great help – my kindle didn’t always split/group words properly, so the dictionary lookups weren’t always relevant.
I had to stop and restart multiple times to make sense of some complicated sentences, and the intentional secrecy made it hard to understand other parts. I’ll probably re-read the whole chapter again if I have time this week, and maybe prepare some questions for when chapter 2 officially starts! Really glad we have the head start schedule for people like me, I definitely need it Hopefully I won’t get too far behind once the schedules align!
Yeah I’m hoping that as we push through it will get easier at some point – hopefully before I drop too far behind the main reading schedule
The dialogues and secrecy made this one harder for me to follow than chapter 1… At one point I doubted my understanding (weird sentences), only to realise a few pages further on that we’re not supposed to know what they’re talking about at that point
Thank you for the vocab sheet, it was really useful!
I did froze up after reading one page thinking “I want to stop now and give it a break” so I forced myself to keep going - which was a good move because the more I read the more I was enjoying it!
Oh I’ve been there. “That was too easy, I must have missed something!”
When I read the book with the original club, I really struggled through the first four chapters. Some time after that it just clicked though, because by the end of the book it felt relatively easy to read.
