追い越す accepts "to overcome"

The main meaning for ()()す is “to overtake” (I guess that’s where the error margin came in) and as a non-native english speaker that’s indeed what I meant and couldn’t think of. But “to overcome” which I typed instead, actually means something different. I guess it could be a metaphorical translation of the word, though judging by the rest of possible translations, ()()す has a more literal meaning.

Thanks for pointing this out, I’ll get “to overcome” added to the block list now.
