度を超す spelling

Greetings, was just wondering what the kana is for 度 in 度を超す. Is it ど or たび? The example sentence where I found it in is below if you wish.
Cheers!

From what I can tell 度 is ど, but 超す should be written as 越す. Seems like a typo on their part.

But… eh… they used this as the example for 超す didn’t they… strictly speaking, I don’t see dictionaries recognizing 超す in this phrase. Perhaps the writer just, knowing the phrase natively and not thinking deeply about it, assumed that either こす would be okay to use. They are related of course.

Oh interesting, was also wondering what the difference was between 超す and 越す but just thought I would learn it down the track. I typed 度を超す in jisho and nothing came up so I just assumed it wasn’t a set phrase but 度を越す does indeed come up as ‘to go too far’.

Can one truly not be used over the other? I found this hinative answer on how to use it but they don’t seem to correct the asker on using 超す over 越す. https://hinative.com/ja/questions/4370506

It’s possible that natives just aren’t aware that dictionaries don’t contain both. I wouldn’t assume that just because it wasn’t remarked on that it’s acceptable to use in a learning resource or in an edited publication.

True, now that I about it if english natives get something as simple as you’re and your mixed up then of course there’d be things like that in japanese.
