Welcome to 葬送のフリーレン ・ Frieren ・ Volume 9 Discussion Thread

We read volume one as part of the Beginner Book Club. This is a spin off club to continue reading the series together.

All the discussion will take place on this thread and I’ll post a participation poll each week as we start the next section.

The folk in these first 2 chapters have some crazy facial hair! We’ve also met some cool 魔物. Nice that Frieren gets to reap the long term rewards of Hinmeru’s investment. Also that pancake flipping magic sounds sweet!

Ah that’s so sweet that the sailor gave Frieren Himmel’s memoirs. I bet he left it behind on purpose for her to find later

I liked the way this week wrapped up. I thought they were being employed to help someone make lots of money, but in the end it was just someone who wanted to protect nature

Fun vocab word (p37):
寿命で死ぬ: to die of old age
more literally, to die from lifespan
I couldn’t find this on Jisho or other sources, which tend to use 老衰で死ぬ

At least we got the benefit of being able to see the kanji! In fact his reply should probably have been in hiragana!
