Welcome to 葬送のフリーレン ・ Frieren ・ Volume 5 Discussion Thread

We read volume one as part of the Beginner Book Club. This is a spin off club to continue reading the series together.

All the discussion will take place on this thread and I’ll post a participation poll each week as we start the next section.

Aah, I was wondering about a bird apparently, cause according to Manga Kotoba the most frequent word in this volume for me:

Stille（静寂）。英語のstill（静止した）と同語源のstill（静かな・静止した）の名詞形。

“Stille” translated to English would be “silence”(noun), so I guess I’d go for 「静寂」.

Oof, had a lot of trouble with this chapter, but managed to get through it.

Couple of small things.

1. Is this the first chapter that doesn’t start by referencing Himmel’s death?
2. ラヴィーネ used the phrase 「意外と」a couple of times. From what I can gather this is just a colloquial synonym for 「意外に」?

From a quick google, seems that way - 意外に is a bit more ‘literary feeling’ is what several posters seem to say

Appears so, perhaps this means we’ll be seeing many chapters to come in this mage test sequence …

don’t worry it’s not like a lot of other filler story arcs… it’s at least interesting and there is a lot of stuff that will happen that is important … remember it’s still frieren
