Nah, she’s standing in the open space at the back of the balcony where the patrons all come in - you can see the doors in the wall behind her. Found this seating layout of the hall where one of the four main haru-no-odori events is held (the one in Gion, specifically), and while it doesn’t quite match what’s in the manga (not enough seats, for starters), you can still get the general idea - basically, Kiyo is standing immediately behind row H on the balcony.
Ahh yeah that’s a good point

I love the contrast of how not just the Kiyo/Sumire pair, but now also the Riko/Megane-san-neesan pair are communicating telepathically.

Yah, Sumire, plan “I’m gonna punish myself for making mistakes with starvation” is sure to work well.
I don’t find yakisoba pan in convenience stores often enough when I’m travelling in Japan - only time I’ve seen it was when I was caught in the middle of Typhoon Hagibis. Perhaps I just haven’t been looking carefully enough. Would quite like to have it again…
Chapter 72
Two chapters in a row we’ve had a sandwich of pasta with mayo, it really is crunch season for our maikotachi haha
A carrot being cut, and I believe cut daikon at the lower-left.

I want to try all those bamboo dishes…
They look pretty good, I have always liked bamboo but haven’t incorporated it into my cooking due to how hard it is to get where I live
I can buy this stuff at my local supermarket, but that’s about it.
(Actually, come to think of it, I’m not sure I’ve checked the vegetable aisle in my local Asian grocer lately…)

Oh, so there’s a “father” in the (gei/mai)ko community too, huh?
I’m not sure I understand this chapter at all. I mean, can read all the words, but I feel like I’m missing a whole bunch of subtext.
I’ve had cream soda twice in Japan, and both times it’s come with the ice cream balanced on top of a stack of ginormous ice cubes that fill about eighty percent of the glass. You get almost no drink, and you can’t dunk the ice cream in the drink with all the ice cubes in the way, so I’ve thus far been less than impressed.
In any case, that’s another volume done! That brings us to one-quarter of the currently-published volumes (though that’s gonna change by this time next month, when volume 29 gets released).
I think I mainly “got it” - any bits in particular you meant?
About the only thing that I did understand was that Sumire is reluctant to order cream soda for fear of looking childish.
While the series does have a tendency to introduce new concepts in the geiko world out of the blue from time to time, why are we bringing up hanameishi now? Why’s it suddenly so important that she have one? What function do they perform? Why’s Momoko suddenly getting so philosophical about the nature of love? And why’s she punishing Sumire with that atrocious design?
I think the theme is Sumire not asking for things that she wants or needs. So it sounds like she already has Hanameishi, but Momoko is aware she’s running low on them, and wants her to ask for them. Then when the guy is busy and they go to the cafe, she doesn’t order what she wants.
So I think the question at the end is: “is there something you want, but don’t want to ask for?”
